Las Vegas, Nevada. United States of America

I was born in Galveston, Texas (1970). I went to high school in Saint Louis, Missouri (9/10) and Hillsborough, New Jersey (11/12 grade).

I have been in and to some of the greatest American cities in my 44 years. (Not just the greatest American Cities but a lot of the Greatest Cities on the Planet Earth).

(This is at random):

New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, New Orleans, Memphis, Kansas City (MO), Miami, Austin, San Antonio, Boston, Little Rock, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, etc...

The one city I have yet to visit is Las Vegas. However I will be there soon enough.

I have purchased a ticket to see RUSH in Vegas in July of this year. I will be travelling to this city and show alone which will cost me $872.38. I will be staying at the MGM Grand Hotel. The RUSH concert is at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Even though I am not a real "Gambler", I plan on taking at least $5,000 with Me. If I happen to lose a grand or two, I know that I will have spent My money wisely and happen to see RUSH on their very last tour.

Okay, My question is: besides gambling, what is there to do in Las Vegas?

Any and all a responses are appreciated.

Well, the milkshakes at the Hard Rock Hotel can't be beat, and of course there are shows galore, maybe Liza Minelli or Celine Dion are up your ally...go see Celine and you get Cirque du Soleil as a bonus!

Sounds like you have a great Vegas trip planned; it's exactly what I do, LOL. I will be at that concert, 12th row Alex's side, staying at the MGM Signature hotel for the weekend and then staying & visiting with family for a week. I usually budget some casino money in too, not as much as you but enough to have a full night's worth of fun. There is no shortage of fun things to do in Vegas but be aware that they are not cheap (long gone are the $5.00 buffets) and, depending on your age, can be exhausting either to get to or while waiting in line. I find the trek from the MGM Grand Hotel room to the Garden Arena alone can be tiring so wear some comfortable shoes, ha ha.

kingzoso, have a great trip. I highly suggest the Grand Canyon dinner sunset trip. Since you have not been there, also take time to watch the water fountains at Bellagio

^^I stayed there a few years ago and was fortunate enough to be put in one of the rooms where the music is piped in to match the show..it was really fun:-)

And if your into the rat pack the Sinatra Restaurant at Encore & Wynn Hotel & Casino is worth a visit and the Sinatra family has only allowed Steve Wynn to have his name anywhere in regards to a restaurant on the strip. The Sr. VP and GM there..we started out at Ritz-Carlton together two decades ago. He gave me a tour of the high roller suites...6K sq ft and unbelievable:-)

Hard Rock Hotel also has a few Led Zeppelin pieces in the lobby area:-)

Enjoy the trip!!

I always stick to gambling, people watching, and drinking.

Was in LV late July last year, stayed at the M Resort, and it was hot as fuck.

Stay at MGM, the previous trip, and it's an all right place, big as hell.

For my two cents, if you're taking 5K for disposable dinero, don't go more than 2K deep in slots or table games.

Where you may find great intrigue, is the sportsbook at the far end of the casino, off to the right side facing the strip. (if it's still in the same location)

You should be able to place forward thinking MBL bets and even bet the current lines on 2015 NFL games. You've got time to bone up on this.

In the morning after serious drinking, hang out by a 25 cent slots and slowly feed the machine. A buxom waitress will be at your side soon to ask if you need a drink. Good coffee stratagy. Tip the waitress. This beats paying $3-$4 for a cup at a indoor cafe or the shops on the ground floor perimeter. (if they're still there)

I have a thing for roulette. Great table game. I mainly place outside bets, combined with inside bets every few spins.

Chat it up with the croupier, and tip them a few bucks if you hit a good spin. The pit boss will get feed back from the croupier and knows your general wagers. Duration at the table helps, but nice manner and tipping the croupier can get you comped for sure.

Last time I was at the MGM, it was our last night, my wife retreated to our room. I stayed a roulette wheel to probably 3-4am. I was trashed when I luckily made it back to the room. When I was inserting my room key into the door, two extremely attractive black women were exiting a room across the hall about three doors down. " Do you need any company?"

I foget what off the cuff response I replied, but my wife was awake and heard the episode. She didn't sit with me on the return flight and I was on the shit list for several days.

kingzoso, have a great time, keep your wits, and you'll be chomping to plan a return trip

Thanks to all for the replies and recommendations so far. I should point out that I will be arriving in Vegas on a Thursday (7/23) afternoon and departing on Sunday (7/26) afternoon. So I will technically have 2 full days to do whatever and I plan to take some of the recommends that have been posted. The RUSH concert is on Saturday night. Since I said that I am not a big gambler, I think taking $5,000 is a bit too much. I will probably take half of that.

Since there seems to be endless things to do in Vegas in just 2 days, I don't think I will have time to take the dam tour.

More replies and recommendations are always welcomed and appreciated.

When I was there back in 2000 I just wandered around the desert and drove around highway 50 with music playing in the car for 2 weeks. Zig zaged all over Nevada and Arizona. It was a fun honeymoon. The place was a dry burning heat, but I had a ton of fun just visiting little towns and stuff like that.

You'll fly over the Grand Canyon which is extremely cool, then shortly be over Lake Mead. There's a good chance you'll get a glimpse of the Hoover Dam.

One trip to Las Vegas the pilot pointed out to the passengers two monstrous circles in between two mountain ranges in the middle of who knows where.

"What you see is where some nuclear testing was conducted."

I just re-read the 24 replies to this topic I posted. My trip to Las Vegas to see RUSH and have a great but somewhat limited time is in 25 days. I really need to take everyone's recommendations into advisement and plan on what I want to do and see and gamble, etc...

If anyone else has something to add to what I can, should and do in Las Vegas in the short time that I am going to be there, I do appreciate it.

I will admit that I am more nervous on the flight to and from Dallas/Las Vegas and Las Vegas/Dallas then I am anything else. Even though I used to work for the Department of Homeland Security as a TSA Agent about 10 years ago, I have not actually flown on an airplane in over 20+ years.

To any that this may concern: is there anyone on this forum that is attending the RUSH concert at the MGM Grand Garden Arena next Saturday night, July 25, 2015?

I will be in Las Vegas (from Dallas) staying at the MGM Grand hotel on Thursday 23 - Sunday 26, 2015 leaving that day, Sunday afternoon.

I would really enjoy meeting anyone on this forum who might be going to the RUSH concert that evening (even those that I might not agree with some of the things I post on this Awesome Led Zeppelin Forum). I really am a very nice, cordial, polite person regardless of what I post.

Anyone, anyone???

That's great, Charles -- that's the way to travel!

I will be there kingzoso; am staying Fri. & Sat. nights at the MGM Signature Hotel and then a week with my Mom in Henderson. I'm not telling her about those extra 2 days or I would never hear the end of it! In her eyes I'm still 15 yrs. old, LOL.

The Rush fans have planned pre- and post- concert gatherings at numerous locations. Some are meeting up at the Nine Fine Irishmen at New York New York Casino, some are getting together at the Crown & Anchor off the strip, and then there are many like myself who do not want to leave the MGM before the concert. Most are choosing the Rogue Bar, so that is most likely where I will be.

I've been to several Rush shows at the MGM and believe me, there are Rush fans swarming the casino/hotel in every nook & cranny the night of the show. You can tell because 90% are wearing Rush t-shirts, haha. I will swim against the tide and wear either my cute Led Zeppelin or my British Invasion tee that night. But carry a Rush messenger bag for good measure.

If you want to make definite plans to meet, I would enjoy it very much. I met up with forum member Ally for a Rush concert in Vancouver about 3 years ago and had a great time. There's always a lot to talk about with fellow fans even if one is more of a quiet, lurker type as I am. Let me know what you think, either here or in a PM.

Awesome!

I got to meet Deborah J a few years ago at the Them Crooked Vultures show in Atlanta.

We took a couple pics together, but I can't find them anywhere.

I may have even posted them on the forum, but no idea where.
