Las Vegas, Nevada. United States of America

Arriving Las Vegas tomorrow (a pun on Leaving). I am both excited and nervous at the same time. Even though I am not a big gambler, I am bringing enough money to have a good time with. Even if I end up losing $200-300, I will still have enough to last me 4 days. Hopefully I don't lose and end up winning enough or just enough to cover the cost of my trip which was $872.38. Just to make one clarification from my original post (#1), I am not taking so much money as I later thought that that amount was too excessive. I am taking 1/5 of that. That should be plenty enough.

Any quick last minute advice anyone wants to lay out? Thanks everyone!!!

LONG LIVE RUSH AND LED ZEPPELIN!!!

Thanks to all for the replies and recommendations so far. I should point out that I will be arriving in Vegas on a Thursday (7/23) afternoon and departing on Sunday (7/26) afternoon. So I will technically have 2 full days to do whatever and I plan to take some of the recommends that have been posted. The RUSH concert is on Saturday night. Since I said that I am not a big gambler, I think taking $5,000 is a bit too much. I will probably take half of that.

Since there seems to be endless things to do in Vegas in just 2 days, I don't think I will have time to take the dam tour.

More replies and recommendations are always welcomed and appreciated.

Yeah, make a good roar when you are seeing Rush in Las Vegas for me and most of all have a memorably super time while you're there! I'll be thinking of you. I'll be seeing them right after you in Phoenix! Rush!!! Wooo!!!

Always hit a soft 17 (i.e. ace-6), split aces and 8s, double down on 11, and stand on a hard 17 or greater

Never split 5s or 10s and never stand on 12 through 16 if the dealer is showing a 7 or higher

Never take insurance-- it's a sucker move.

Thanks!!!

Off to Dallas Love Field for a 4:35 flight to Las Vegas. VEGAS BABY!!!

Wow. I did not know you were the Vegas type there King. Have fun. And check the pitchers before you go buying up all the tickets on St Louis. Get yourself a $5 future on a Bills vs St Louis Super Bowl. :D

I had a great time in Las Vegas. Only spent (and lost) about $400 on gambling. Slots, a little Blackjack but had the most fun and luck at the Roulette wheel. I did not bet on any Cardinals games even though I probably should have. I spent a little time watching the Cardinals and all the other baseball teams playing on Friday and Saturday on the massive wall of small and giant screens with almost every sports event. I saw that loss the Orioles had win they blew the lead in the bottom of the 9th inning.

I was also so fortunate to meet and hang out with other Zeppelin forum member, Angel With A Broken Wing for about an hour or two on Friday night. She was very nice and most gracious. She really loves Rush and told me a very interesting story about when she had front row seats at a previous Rush concert. (I will let her tell it if she is so inclined to do so). Thanks for taking the time to meet with me.

On Friday afternoon, I walked from the MGM Grand down the Las Vegas Strip past the Bellagio and up to and right in front of Caesar's Palace. I took a video on my phone of the "dancing" water show in front of the Bellagio (as seen at the end of "Oceans Eleven").

Now I can finally say that I have been to Las Vegas, Nevada. The next time I go I want to go with a friend or two.

One last but important note: I have never seen so many sexy, beautiful, hot, etc... women wearing scantily clad outfits and short, short dresses and skirts. A lot of these women were in groups of 5,6,7,8,9 and even 10 (or more) with no men with them (and this was just in the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino). Ask Angel, she saw them too while we were talking and I was drinking beer and she was eating yogurt. She said something like Las Vegas is a single mans dream.

Thanks king, I really enjoyed meeting you too! Of course the one thing that would have made it much better is if the slots had been looser, LOL. It's not much fun gambling anymore, I lost right around $400 over the course of the weekend too. Should have saved that money and I could go to the strip and catch another concert this week, Aerosmith is playing MGM and that might be a fun evening.......well, better than feeding the one-armed bandits. And I'm guessing that a lot of the beautiful young ladies who were hanging out in groups were there as bridal parties. Some girls had clothing and/or sashes with it in writing (bride-to-be, maid of honor, bridesmaid) so maybe these others were in the same situation.

I'm curious how this Rush show compared to the one you saw in Dallas. You could make a comment or two on the Rush thread if you want to keep this one on the topic of Las Vegas.

Edit to add:

There was a funny (to me, certainly not to the parties involved) mini-drama taking place across the aisle from me during the concert. During Neil's drum solo I sat down and noticed a good-looking couple, the girl was sexy gorgeous and seemed to be putting on a show of how much she was getting into the music. Then she got a text on her phone, spent a few minutes writing a note and then another few minutes kissing and loving up on her date and then she left and was gone the rest of the night. I laughed to myself thinking she's an escort gal and just got a message that she could be earning bigger bucks elsewhere so she gave this dude a sob story and fled. Pretty sure I'm right about the scenario -- and bet there were lots of guys on "dates" like this that night. LOL Vegas, baby!!

  • 3 months later...

I am thinking of going back to Las Vegas and having another Great Time.  My only question is:  should I stay at the MGM GRAND again or stay at a different hotel/casino and try and have a different Vegas experience?

I have the funds and means to do whatever I choose, but I am asking for suggestions.
