Zeppelin Concept album

Recommended Posts

As we know, Led Zeppelin never attempted a concept album. I think they certainly had the talent and creativity to pull it off had they wanted to.

Sometimes a concept album can be just a running theme, not necessarily a running story.

That being said. I've often wondered what Zep playlist would create the best hypothetical concept album.

I know one member started a thread about the ultimate Zep blues album, so that would certainly be one way to go.

Personally, I think a running story about a woman that starts off as just a shallow sexual encounter, then leads to a deeper love, then a frustration over the relationship, followed by the breakup and then the acceptance of it, would be a basic theme where a lot of good tracks could be pieced together to create such a story.

Any suggestions?

If your concept was that what you explained, these songs they created would make up the story...

Your Time Is Gonna Come

Whole Lotta Love

The Lemon Song

Thank You

Friends

Out On The Tiles

Since I've Been Loving You

Black Dog

Over The Hills And Far Away

D'yer Mak'er

Custard Pie

Trampled Underfoot

Sick Again

The Wanton Song

Tea For One

In The Evening

Fool In The Rain

South Bound Saurez

I'm Gonna Crawl

Darlene

I Can't Quit You Baby

You Shook M

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

hey Hey What Can I Do

Walter's Walk

Ozone Baby

Ten Years Gone

Would they be in that order though? It seems like the sequence of those are off some. But I appreciate the response. I think the sex encounter would come before Thank You but ending with 10 years gone is great. I was also thinking just before that, maybe Ramble On when he's finally finished and moving on. Then maybe at the end, even after the reflective 10 years gone he' old and singing In My Time of Dying. Of Course that doesn't mesh fully with the concept, but if it was a theme about life in general.

Okay I went ahead and made this list with explanations

I had to adjust the idea a bit because some of the tracks lean towards the character also leaving. So it's kinda like he leaves as a result of the issues because he has no choice but will always go back if he can or could if he thought she would change.

Ramble On (Story opens with him leaving someone he doesnt really love and telling of how he once had a love and will again)

Whole Lotta Love (While rambling, meets the one mentioned that he's looking for in Ramble On)

What is and what should never be (Falls in love with her and wants them to stay together)

Thank You (Expresses his undying love)

Custard Pie (Expresses his still and always desiring of her sexually)

The Rain Song (Expresses continued love with a hint of reality at the end that not all is perfect)

Since Ive Been Loving You (Expresses relationship trouble)

Hey Hey What Can I Do (Expresses details of serious trouble in relationship)

Bring it on Home (Trying to make it work)

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (Threatens to leave if she doesn't change)

Dyer Maker (Doesnt want it to end, regardless)

In the Evening (Tells others not to be fooled by her)

Dazed and Confused (Passionately describes the pain over loving and losing her)

Your Time is Gonna Come (Explains to her what goes around comes around)

Im Gonna Crawl (Explains how he will always go back if wanted)

Going to California (Decides to attempt to move on)

Heartbreaker (Years later he runs into her again and warns others)

10 years gone (Realizes that no matter what he does or says he will always love her, even though he actually ended it)

Heartbreaker mentions that it's been 10 years which leads well into 10 years gone

Actually editing it down with a few revisions, it's way too long (I know I'm nuts) I'll have the new one up soon. Not that anyone cares :)

Okay I tied the 10 years references together near the end.

As for Lord of the Rings references, they will need to be seen as figurative examples of love and loss

Bron-Yr-Aur (Musical Intro)

Over the Hills and Far Away (Story opens with him meeting someone he’s interested in romantically)

What Is and What Should Never Be (Falls in love with her and wants them to stay together)

The Rain Song (Expresses continued love with a hint of reality at the end that not all is perfect)

Since I’ve Been Loving You (Expresses serious relationship trouble)

Hey, Hey What Can I Do (Expresses details of serious trouble in relationship)

Bring it on Home (Trying to make it work)

The Lemon Song (Continues with struggle as to why he's still with her)

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (Threatens to leave if she doesn't change)

Dazed and Confused (Passionately describes the pain over loving and losing her)

Your Time is Gonna Come (Explains to her what goes around comes around)

Tea for One (Depression sinks in)

Going to California (Decides to attempt to move on)

Heartbreaker (10 years later he runs into her again and warns others)

Ten years gone (Realizes that even 10 years later, he will always love her)

Whole Lotta Love (Finds a new mate)

The Wanton Song (Realizes this relationship is based too much on the physical and how he always thinks the next one is The One)

Ramble On (Story closes with him leaving his latest relationship and stating he once had a real love but now he’s been rambling for 10 years since he lost her, and hopes to find a real love again)

I'm not sure about an LZ concept album but reading between the brackets, there's a chick flick in there that I'm sure my wife would watch,,,,,,,when I go to the pub.

lol yeah, well Plant was a bit of a romantic whether we like to admit it or not ha ha. I'm just really bored at times. So it's a cool sequence to listen to them in and just imagine it's a story.
