Well done Lewis hamilton you have made us very proud :) my fingernails are bitten to death after those last two laps !! WOW !!

Mine too Leddy!

What a great pity the crowd were so unsporting though. All the abuse he has come up against make it an even greater victory in my view.

Yeh, the grand prix was really tense towards the end. The last corner on the last lap, that was a miracle.

I was frazzled at the end, just about !

For 69 laps I thought he'd won it, then relief turned to horror on lap 70 when I thought he'd blown it, and then thankfully on the last lap the heavens opened a bit, which worked badly against Glock and his slick tyres, and gave Lewis a get out of jail freebie.

I'm still half-expecting some post-race stewards enquiry to swindle him (AGAIN !) on a technicality of being too dark-skinned, or a half-inch too short, or something equally ridiculous - it's the twisted cynical way the sport has become.

Hi Zeppy,

My thoughts as well, the world just cant stand for a White Middleclass Englishman to win anything can they?

Did you know that,

1. Hamilton is the Formular 1 Champion=English

2. McLaren Racing Cars=English

3. Ferrari Leading Engineers=English

So we won all three, Driver, Car and Engineers, what a brilliant little country we are, Hamilton can take his place up there with all the greats, RP, JP, JPJ, and JB RIP,

et all.

Cool and your dad was obviously a Wolves fan by your name ?? and I aint afraid of old Knebby :D

I am afraid of Knebby. I am trying to get back in her good graces, but this post may really blow it for all I know. Liverpool is my favorite team and favorite city. I am still learning the game, people still have to explain some of the rules to me, but I caught on to quite a bit living over there. I miss the whole pub atmosphere during the big matches. I do get to see some of the matches here in Tennessee on the Soccer network and I try to watch for Liverpool FC.

I also miss Marks and Sparks food hall, especially Simply Red, Tesco strawberry yogurt and being able to go ANYWHERE by train. The smoothies are better over there as well. And I really miss Caffe Nero, Starbucks is in desperate need of competition.

Good to see the support for Liverpool from the posters above. I've lived in Liverpool all of my life and I'm a fanatical Liverpool supporter - I went to my first game in 1967 and have been a regular ever since. I'll be at Anfield tonight for the match against Athletico Madrid.

If anyone wants any information about Liverpool or has any questions, feel free to ask me, either on here or by PM - I'll be glad to help wherever I can.

Hi, me, as a German, I certainly don't care about your shitty football team and you shouldn't either. I mean, you have the best bands and some of the greatest musicians in post-war times,

so fuck your lousy football team and be proud of the great music you make.

You had/have the Beatles, the Stones, Zeppelin and the Who (just to mention a few)

That's like winning four World Championships in row, O.K., doesn't really make sense, but anyway,

you just can't have it all

I'll go along with that - can't stand football.

Speaking of Liverpool FC--I used to live near Anfield, and the name Shankly will always give me a little thrill. :D So will the name Keegan, actually, wherever he ends up.

This is all John Peel's fault. ;)

small world - i used to live there also

10 years or so ago

you are right about the shankly thing they can't get enough of him!

I had the good luck to meet the great man himself many years ago. The conversation went thus:

Me: 'Can I have your autograph please Mr Shankly?'

BS: 'Aye son'

Not one of the great exchanges, I admit, but it meant the world to a 12 year old boy!

Damn, you have 10 years on me. I went to my first game in 1977. I used to stand on the Kop right between the two central posts about a third of the way up but slightly to the right of centre (looking at the pitch) . Since I moved around and now live where I do, I can hardly go to games anymore. Plus, I can't afford it.

Mind you, truth be told, I've never been a fan of seated stadiums.

When I was a youngster, from about '76 to '82, I was a fanatical Liverpool FC supporter. I loved football and Liverpool captured my imagination. Great players and great times.

My love affair with the beautiful game fizzled out as new interests took over..ie, boys (great way to impress though...talk football!) but I look back on those glory days with much affection. Maybe I am being too sentimental and nostalgic, but it just doesn't seem the same nowadays...too much money involved now. It's all very commercialised. Although, of course, I am so pleased that Hull AFC are doing so well. :)

Here is one of my favourite ever moments from my Liverpool FC supporting years...

European Cup Final 1977

I remember that day like it was yesterday - my Grandfather, (who saw his first Liverpool game before the first world war) - paid for me to go to Rome as a 21st birthday present (giving my age away there). There were about 25,000 Liverpool fans in Rome that day and we took over the city. What a great day.

Ian St John had plenty of great Shankly stories. :D

As hard a man as he was, I think he would have been a tremendous manager to play for.

He wasn't going to teach you "life skills" because if you didn't already have that, you weren't playing for him. Unlike so many managers today, he didn't tolerate fools

  • 5 months later...
The Wolves won!

 yep - and we're definitely going to enjoy the next few weeks :drunk:

(especially as next season will probably be a very different story - but, who gives a stuff about that, even if it IS a disaster, I don't).

And let me say, great effort from Liverpool last night to turn it around, and it did look (twice !) like they were going to pull it off - but fair play to Chelsea, and good luck to them for the rest of the tournament.

great advert for the English game. B)
