Joe(liverpool), here's what I mean:

I can turn and walk away, or I can fire the gun

Staring at the sky, staring at the sun

Whichever I choose, it amounts to the same

Absolutely nothing.

I'm alive

I'm dead

I am the stranger

Killing an Arab

The Cure - "Killing an Arab"

There...that's simple enough and you don't need to switch back and forth between different threads.

It would take me a long time, still that is not the only one I've answered, or the only time I have been wrong....... I know, how about a thread were we just take the piss out of each other, that would be a laugh, as long as it is just for fun. No personal insults.

You're the only one Joe is the name of a song and it does repeat about 30 times...I'm not taking the piss....It is a wierd album that it's from though.

Sorry JTM. I take it you mean Gary Glitter, read your response again and it doesn't make sense, I also made a reply to Sisters of Mercy, but I guess they mentioned Marian a few times, and also to a few others........Please don't go trawling though them all. I do them all through memory. I'm not perfect. I first seen Zep (as you know) on 29 November 1971 at Liverpool Stadium, I was only 16, all I can remember about the set list is that they started with Immigrant Song, at the time they usually started with Heartbreaker, they did loads more but Fuck me it was 41 years ago. I try to guess the titles of the song from the words I see. I don't go onto the internet.By the way Hey Joe is the only name of a song that I know of, I don't remember it being used by Gary "The perv" Glitter.

I could be wrong, but I don't think they ever started with Heartbreaker.

No they didn't.

Maybe Joe was late to the Liverpool 1971 gig? They started with Immigrant Song and then went into Heartbreaker. If he was late, then he might have been under the impression that Heartbreaker was the first song.

Ask if we can have six in, if not we'll have to have 2

You're coming up our end aren't you? So I'll get one with you

Oh won't he let us have six in? especially not with the food

He coulda just told us no though, he dint have to be rude

See her in the green dress? She talked to me at the bar

How come its already two pound fifty? We've only gone about a yard

Dint ya see she were gorgeous, she was beyond belief

But this lad at the side drinking a Smirnoff ice came and paid for her tropical Reef

And I'm sitting going backwards, and I didn't want to leave

Its high green mate, via hillsborough please

How funny was that sketch earlier, up near that taxi rank

Oh no you will have missed it, think it was when you went to the bank

These two lads squaring up proper shouting, bout who was next in the queue

The kind of thing that would seem so silly but not when they've both had a few

Calm down temper temper, you shouldn't get so annoyed

You're acting like a silly little boy

They wanted to be men and do some fighting in the street

No surrender, no chance of retreat

Drunken plots hatched to jump it, ask around are ya sure?

Went for it but the red light was showing

And the red light indicates doors are secured

I walked into this bar, and the man refused;

He said, "We don't serve strangers in blue suede shoes;

We don't give credit, and we don't give way

We have to think about what the people might say..

uh, you know what I mean..."

I said, "Sure, man"

Oh, he gave me a smile that was sickly and wet,

And I offered him one of my cigarettes.

He took it, afraid that he might appear rude,

Then proceeded to sell me some second class food.

Nice guy - meet 'em everywhere...

He said, "My oh my, I have suffered too long,

And this cigarette seems to be very strong;

I don't make the rules

I just get what I take

And I guess every rule was made to break.

You can take what you like, it won't hurt me

Cause I'm just working for the company"

From the green cigarette, he took a long drag,

And said, "I think I'll pack my travelling bag.

I'm tired of cheating, and wasting my head

And filling the boss's bags with bread.

I want to get out in the sun and rain,

And feel the wind on on skin again;

The world is large, and I've got time yet.

And, by the way, thanks for that cigarette...

Thank you very much.

You know, I feel like a new man

Yes I do, I don't know why;

I'd just like to say

Thank you very much (indeed)

It's a beautiful day

I think I'll be on my way (right away)

I'd just like to say

Thank you very much.

Yes, I'm getting the hell out of here

Yes, I am - bye, bye.

That's the end of the message

Thank you very much.

Bye bye..."

I was listening to that this morning, from an album by Kevin Ayers entitled odd ditties, co-incidence or what?

Sister bluebird flying high above

Shine your wings forward to the sun

Hide the myst'ries of life on your way

Though you've seen them, please don't say a word

What you don't know, I have never heard

Starship trooper, go sailing on by

Catch my soul, catch the very light

Hide the moment from my eager eye

Though you've seen them, please don't tell a soul

What you can't see, can't be very whole

Speak to me of summer

Long winters longer than time can remember

The setting up of other roads

To travel on in old accustomed ways

I still remember the talks by the water

The proud sons and daughter

That knew the knowledge of the land

Spoke to me in sweet accustomed ways

Mother life, hold firmly on to me

Catch my knowledge higher than the day

Lose as much as only you can show

Though you've seen me, please don't say a word

What I don't know, I have never shared

Loneliness is a power that we possess to give or take away forever

All I know can be shown by your acceptance of the facts there shown before you

Take what I say in a different way and it's easy to say that this is all confusion

As I see a new day in me, I can also show it you and you may follow

Speak to me of summer

Long winters longer than time can remember

The setting up of other roads

To travel on in old accustomed ways

I still remember the talks by the water

The proud sons and daughter

That knew the knowledge of the land

Spoke to me in sweet accustomed ways

Can anyone start with lyrics that they know, and not quote from the internet? I have a vast knowledge of music as does everyone else on this forum, so why don't we all quote from memory, instead of resorting to the internet.......Or is that too difficult??

Why is it so difficult to believe people haven't been doing so already? Just because Major Major or Paul Carruthers posts a long song lyric doesn't mean they don't know it by heart. I know just about every Led Zeppelin song by heart, including the long ones such as Stairway, Achilles, Rain Song, etc. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

I know plenty of other group's songs...Stones, Beatles, Sex Pistols, Jane's Addiction, Neil Young, Dylan, Velvet Underground...anybody that I've had pumped into my head through decades and decades of repeated listening. Know 'em by heart.

As do many others here, I bet. Since it takes time to type out a long song lyric, and because people may be on a time limit due to work or family obligations, it's just easier and saves time to 'cut + paste'.

Doesn't mean they don't know the song by heart.

drivin' faster in my car

falling farther from just what we are

smoke a cigarette and lie some more

these conversations kill

falling faster in my car

time to take her home

her dizzy head is conscience laden

time to take a ride

it leaves today no conversation

time to take her home

her dizzy head is conscience laden

time to wait too long

to wait too long

these conversations kill

to much walkin', shoes worn thin

too much trippin' and my soul's worn thin

time to catch a ride

it leaves today, her name is what it means

to much walkin', shoe's worn thin

If you didn't care what happened to me,

And I didn't care for you,

We would zig zag our way through the boredom and pain

Occasionally glancing up through the rain.

Wondering which of the buggars to blame

And watching for pigs on the wing.

You know that I care what happens to you,

And I know that you care for me.

So I don't feel alone,

Or the weight of the stone,

Now that I've found somewhere safe To bury my bone.

And any fool knows a dog needs a home,

A shelter from pigs on the wing.

I'm on the run, I kill to eat

I'm starving now, feeling dead on my feet

Going all the way, I'm natures beast

Do what I want and do as I please

Run - Fight - To breathe - It's tough

Now you see me now you don't

Break the walls I'm coming out

Not a prisoner I'm a free man

And my blood is my own now

Don't care where the past was

I know where I'm going ...out!

If you kill me it's self defense

And if I kill ya' then I call it vengeance

Spit in your eye I will defy

You'll be afraid when I call out your name

Run - Fight - To breathe - It's gonna be tough

Now you see me now you don't

Break the walls I'm coming out

Not a prisoner I'm a free man

And my blood is my own now

Don't care where the past was

I know where I'm going

I'm not a number I'm a free man

Live my life where I want to

You'd better scratch me from your black book

Cause' I'll run rings around you

They're selling postcards of the hanging

They're painting the passports brown

The beauty parlor is filled with sailors

The circus is in town

Here comes the blind commissioner

They've got him in a trance

One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker

The other is in his pants

And the riot squad they're restless

They need somewhere to go

As Lady and I look out tonight From Desolation Row.......

.......Cinderella, she seems so easy "It takes one to know one," she smiles

And puts her hands in her back pockets Bette Davis style

And in comes Romeo, he's moaning "You belong to Me I Believe"

And someone says, "You're in the wrong place, my friend You better leave"

And the only sound that's left After the ambulances go

Is Cinderella sweeping up On Desolation Row......

You wear guilt

Like shackles on your feet

Like a halo in reverse

I can feel

The discomfort in your seat

And in your head it's worse

There's a pain

A famine in your heart

An aching to be free

Can't you see

All love's luxuries

Are here for you and me

And when our worlds

They fall apart

When the walls come tumbling in

Though we may deserve it

It will be worth it

Bring your chains

Your lips of tragedy

And fall into my arms

And when our worlds

They fall apart

When the walls come tumbling in

Though we may deserve it

It will be worth it

.......Now the moon is almost hidden

The stars are beginning to hide

The fortunetelling lady Has even taken all her things inside

All except for Cain and Abel And the hunchback of Notre Dame

Everybody is making love Or else expecting rain

And the Good Samaritan, he's dressing

He's getting ready for the show

He's going to the carnival tonight On Desolation Row.........

......Now Ophelia, she's 'neath the window

For her I feel so afraid On her twenty-second birthday

She already is an old maid

To her, death is quite romantic

She wears an iron vest

Her profession's her religion

Her sin is her lifelessness

And though her eyes are fixed upon Noah's great rainbow

She spends her time peeking Into Desolation Row......
