leddy
Funniest thing was, the guitar player was trying to be a Ritchie look alike! So it was like a bad tribute band then !!!

yahyoubetcha
Did you ever see the real purple before or since ??? Yes, I saw the Perfect Strangers tour and then again this fall at the Casino Ballroom, Hampton Beach. They played the entire Machine Head album. It was great! Also saw Rainbow somewhere around '80/'81? Joe Lynn Turner era anyway. Blackmore was great but never did like JLT.

Cool I saw them on the Perfect Strangers tour too , I never liked JLT either, I guess it was blackmore going thru his pop rock stage !! but great to see the guitar solos on the Straight between the eyes dvd though!! Ady
So it was like a bad tribute band then !!! Leddy, they played "Might Just Take Your Life" and when Evans introduced the song he said, "Here's one off OUR 'Burn' album." Here's an article about the sorry affair: http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/aprilskies/65/dp1980.html Edited January 1, 2008 by Ady

Legacy01
2008 is of course the fortieth anniversary of the group Deep purple so lets hope there will be some new goodies from the archives or dvds or even better a gig by the MK II lineup or III for that matter as long as Blackmore is there !!! I would of loved to see Deep Purple, hopefully they will play a gig! Blackmore guitar playing is just amazing, I think he's definitely up there with the greatest guitarists ever! Sometimes a bit underrated imo. Blackmore invented so many basic and easy riffs, but they all sounded very brilliant and unique. Listening to Wring That Neck (Live) right now, just awesome guitar playing.
yahyoubetcha
I don't know. The band is alive and kickin' with Steve Morse, recording and touring. I don't think we'll see Blackmore back with them again.

icantquityoubabe
Thought I would start off this again ! any Deep purple Rainbow fans out there ?? Leddy I was a big fan of theirs in the day. Machine Head may have been the first true rock album I bought with my own money. Had the old greatest hits album Purple Passages. I just dont think they progressed after a certain time though. and Blackmore in my opinion, though good, not ini the same league as Jimmy Page. Not even close. Jon Lord was great and truly underated. I say he is better than Wakeman but not as good as Emerson by any means. But in fairness to this band who you english folks seem to hold in high esteem just like Queen (which I dont understand at all0 I may have missed out on some of their material. Have heard "made in Japan" but Ii didnt have the same love for them I did for Zeppeliin. Then again I could say that about any band.
