Whoever that clown is that sings "Flirtin' With Disaster" for Molly Hatchett

That "clown" would be the late, great Mr. Danny Joe Brown who passed away due to complications from diabetes in 2005.

whichever Van Zant was on Skynyrd  (I get them mixed up and I don't feel like looking it up... I think it's Ronnie tho)

It's Ronnie Van Zant. His youngest brother Johnny fronts the post-crash version of Skynyrd. Donnie sings for .38 Special.

I admire a lot of different singers..

Etta James (She gives me goosbumps, listen to I'd Rather Go Blind)

Gram Parsons

Gerry Roslie (The Sonics)

Bob Dylan

Emmylou Harris

Mick Jagger

Otis Redding

Rick Danko (The Band)

Richard Manuel (The Band)

Levon Helm (The Band)

Roky Erickson

Sky Saxon (The Seeds)

Howling Wolf

Skip James

Tift Merritt

Heather Nova

Ane Brun

Aretha Franklin (When she's not wailing too much)

Waylon Jennings

Roy Orbison

Buddy Guy

Stevie Winwood

Eric Burdon

Lou Reed

Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys)

Van Morrison

Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters)

Dave Vanian (The Damned)

Feargal Sharkey (Undertones)

Johnny Cash

the list goes on..

What I don't like is singers who tries to hit as many notes as possible in a short time, i.e: Dion, Aguilera, Carey and Houston. But I admit they have great voices, it's just their style that's annoying.

Favourites include:

Jeff Buckley

Robert Plant

Jack Bruce

James Dean Bradfield

Liam Gallagher

Paul Draper

Thom Yorke

Least favourites include:

Bon Scott/Brian Johnson (I cannot listen to AC/DC because as soon as the vocals come in I would rather put my own nipples in acid than listen on any further. And it's such a shame).

Tim Wheeler (Ash are shite anyway but for fuck's sake...could you have any duller a voice?)

...actually I can't think of anyone else right now, but I may be back. :)

Nice to see Gerry Roslie and Eric Burden get a nod. :)

Yeah, they are both great, aren't they! :D

I remember first hearing The Witch and He's Waitin' with The Sonics, I was stunned by Roslie's vocals! Can't be more rock'n'roll than that!

I always thought Gerry Roslie and Wally Tax (HUGE fan of Tax, btw!) had a similar quality in their voices. Tax certainly has a more melodic tone, especially on the later Outsiders stuff (which wasn't all that great, imo), but the similarities are still there.

I haven't thought of the similarity between those two.. I have to take a listen to The Outsiders with that in mind. I love their debut album, The Outsiders were a cool band.. Wally past away not too long ago, sad story, I've heard he was in pretty bad shape..

Yeah...unfortunately there's quite a bit of later, solo Tax stuff on youtube that really shows the kind of shape he was in during his later years. Saddens me to think folks will hear stuff like that, but never listen to things like Touch , That's Your Problem , Ballad Of John B , Lying All The Time, etc. etc.

Bob Dylan (Sorry! I just don't get it!)

Since I was born in 1962 I can't really remember a time when there wasn't a Bob Dylan so I've always been surrounded by his music. That said, he's definitely an acquired taste. Still, he was a constant in my life music-wise so I never really had to warm up to him. It probably goes without saying but what he has going for him most of all is his songwriting ability. I believe that's where other artists like The Byrds come in. Their versions of his songs helped to make Dylan more palatable to the masses which helped expose him to a larger audience. His alliances with The Band probably didn't hurt things either.

Richard Strange

What... as in 'Kid', as in Docs of Madness? Now there's an unusual choice...

Favs: too many to mention. Plant, Rodgers, Halford probably. + Buckley Jnr.

Least favs: Ian Anderson & Damon Albarn. I'd like to torture them, just as they have tortured me.
