one of my favorite quotes:

By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Socrates

Very few people even understand Kant. He was way ahead of his time. He got my vote.

The Critique of Pure Reason is the most challenging piece of philosophy I've ever read; but it's also one of the most rewarding... Nevertheless, I voted for Kierkegaard. Fear and Trembling is profound.

I have many philisophers that I like.

But I don't have one in particular that I base my life on

or like everything of.

Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.

Karl Marx

As for me, all I know is that I know nothing.

Socrates

Wisdom begins in wonder.

Dug this up...

I voted for Kant. Besides defining the Enlightenment period, his treatises on aesthetics probably cure some forms of malignant cancer.

After reading tracts of Critique of Judgment, I ran outside and decked some sorostitutes. Not very humanitarian of me, unless you consider the betterment of the human race feasible through de-Ugg booting and de-North Face jacketing peroxide blondes. And I'm guessing it might be after all.

I spent a lot of time studying French existentialists/absurdists (Camus, Sartre, Beckett, Ionesco...) in college. I can't say I favor them, but I could probably still write a paper on them 25 years later.

As i was an -american lit major. I like the style of -emerson, kerouac, dickinson and others. I think there is a good angle, in comparison to the rest of the world. Their not philosophers, their writers. but i just wanted to quickly chime in, as this thread popped up tonight.
