Pink Floyd's album before Dark Side release = Excellent!

Floyd's one of my favorite bands, but an album I never listened to before was "Obscured by Clouds," a soundtrack for the film, "La Vallee."

(Although I've heard many times the track, "Free Four.")

I always assumed "Meddle" was the last Floyd album released before Dark Side, but I was wrong.  Here are some clips from the album:

It’s not coming within 6 hours of me, so unfortunately no. You could take a quarter of the pre-dark side stuff and have an epic collection. There are a lot of gems even without the Barrett stuff.  Looking back at it, you can see it all moving into the DSOTM/WYWH stratosphere.  Obscured By Clouds is absolutely a great precursor to DSOTM.  Just as was Atom Heart Mother. Meddle was great on its own and developed the Gilmour/Wright singing combo more than anything else for DSOTM - more in the vain of WYWH, musically, IMO.

Glad you found it.  I bought the early catalog, in order, about 10 years ago to experience it properly.  I’d had everything DSOTM and past, plus Meddle,  but never really checked out the early albums as a whole. Great finds. ✌🏼

Obscured By Clouds is one of their greatest works and IMO, one of their most underrated albums. People always talk about Dark Side or WYWH or Animals or The Wall, and three of those four albums are indeed legendary, but OBC is just as good and stands up just as well. "Burning Bridges" is in my all-time Top 5 Pink Floyd songs list. It's that good.

I've always loved this album ever since I first bought it as a teenager in, I think, 1980. I wish there was some decent live video of the Floyd in the 70s. But you have to go to the David Gilmour live videos for that silky smooth voice and that slide. One of the best songs in all of their back catalogue
