The Pagemeister
Jack White Hails Big Sugar's '500 Pounds' as "Best Blues-Based Record Ever to Come Out of Canada” Third Man Records will reissue the album in February Jack White has been known to celebrate Canadian music from time to time, including covering Danko Jones with the Racontueurs. Continuing this tradition, White has hailed Gordie Johnson’s group Big Sugar's 1993 debut 500 Pounds as "the best blues-based record ever to come out of Canada" as his label Third Man Records reissues the LP in question. White raved about Big Sugar in a video posted on Instagram yesterday (January 24), offering a rare testimonial about one of the albums his label is reissuing. "I don't usually do this, but this record means a lot to me. It's really important to me, especially when I was a teenager," White said, revealing that he bought the album in 1993 at the band’s show in Pontiac, MI, two years before it was officially released in the US. He added, "I love this record so much." The reissue comes out on February 16. A limited-edition pressing comes on what the label is calling "frosted blues" coloured vinyl, and comes with a bonus 7-inch. Pre-orders of the limited edition have already sold out, but the label confirmed on Instagram that more will be available from Third Man stores on release day; pre-orders for the standard edition are still available from the label's online shop. https://exclaim.ca/music/article/jack-white-hails-big-sugar-s-500-pounds-as-the-best-blues-based-record-ever-to-come-out-of-canada Edited January 27 by The Pagemeister
