greenman
There have been rumours that Page wanted to release a chronological live album going back to the 70's(espeically that it was his preffered alternative to Coda) but what form would/should such a release have taken in your opinion? I think its a safe bet to say it would have been between a 2 and 4 disk vinyl set and we have a decent idea what's in the vault so what would you have put on it and why? Mattmc1973
Well, think of it this way...I took the 2003 DVD and ripped the audio and made MP3's out of it, and put it on my iPod. Essentially, I have a chronological live album there...1970 Royal Albert Hall, 1973 MSG, 1975 Earl's Court, and 1979 Knebworth. Plus, you have the '69 Danish TV special and the appearances on the Supershow and Tous En Scene. Page could basically have used all that, and it's a bad-ass live album, agreed? Yeah, that's what I did too. Just label every song with their respective location and year on iTunes and there ya go.
Predator
^ Stairway denied?? They should at least include a Stairway such as one from 1971 or 73, i can list many favourites but probably 09-29 Osaka would be perfect. Also, from the 1969 portion they have to include Pat's Delight Amazing performance. Edited January 3, 2008 by Predator
Mattmc1973
But that stuff, as good as it is, was culled because they had video of it... I'd pick other stuff from available audio...assuming he has pristine soundboards/multitracks of some of these... Yeah, but remember, the reason he used those particular videos, and not some others is because he had multi-track audio to accompany it. I'm not sure how much multi-track audio he has in the vault. He pulled out HTWWW and used it, and we've heard Southampton '73...does Jimmy have a lot more? Is the Bill Graham "Wolfgang's Vault" stuff multitrack? solar
Remember, he only released much of the live stuff officially that we have because of all the current technology to help clean and restore the sound to those recordings. So I think in '81 or '82, much of those live recordings now out there, he felt, were unusable. I'm guessing he was not satisfied with a lot of it for performance moreso than sound quality. There has been stuff released from almost each year Zep toured, but look at which years are specifically absent. And much of it is heavily edited. '69: BBC stuff (1997) 03: Danish TV on DVD (2003) Staines Supershow on DVD (2003) Tous En Scene on DVD (2003) '70 Royal Albert Hall on DVD (2003) '71 BBC show (1997) '72 HTWWW (2003) '73 MSG/TSRTS (2003 and 1976/2007 rerelease) '75 Earls Court from DVD (2003) '77 None '79 Knebworth from DVD (2003) '80 None The only things I can think of for sure that we know is left are the Japan shows from '71, Southampton '73 and the Seattle '77 show, as well as that multitrack studio session of '50s songs and the two songs Dave Lewis mentioned (St. Tristan's Sword and Lost In Space). gollum6668
Damn...If they can clean up BBC Sessions (Sunshine Woman...such a shame!!)...Then Page & Co. U would think could def. clean up some kick ass shows for release, perhaps a huge multi-disc set that features shows previously not released on CD such as '77, 79, 80. We have the "Early Live Years." Why not the "Latter Live Years." Highlights of the '77 shows, the 8-4-79 knebworth and the '80 concerts are dearly missed by many of the mainstream public. Oh well..and another '69 show would be great..'Sitting and Thinking' is a classic Zep blues, As Long As Have You, Pats Delight. Good times..and Bad Times in this empty void of live Zep. from the 80's shows..Train Kept A Rolling..So damn hard and in your face..and Money was fun..oh well.. SilverVishnu
Dream shows to include (regardless of realistically finding multitrack soundboards for them): Anything from '68 1969-04-24 or 27 1969-10-10 1970-03-07 1970-06-28 1970-09-04 1971-03-05 or 6 1971-05-03 1971-09-29 1972-06-25 1973-01-22 1973-03-22 or 24 1973-06-02 1975-03-21 1975-05-25 1977-06-2x 1979-07-24 1979-08-04 1980-06-xx Ah, one can dream eh?... SickDog
Dont think Page would let Southampton or anything from 77 see official release due to performance issues.... is Japan 71 known for sure? In what form? And these 50's songs and 2 Dave Lewis mentioned songs? Am I that outta the loop?!
