Inthelateafternoon
Listening to a lot of 69/70 Zeppelin this weekend, and I don't seem to have a great sounding version of Zep doing Long Tall Sally. Can anyone point me in the direction of the best version of this rare encore. All help most appreciated.
Zep Hed
Probably Royal Albert Hall. 9 Jan 70.
Strider
January 9, 1970 RAH and September 2, 1970 Oakland are the best-sounding versions out there.
porgie66
I'm sure you know the RAH version. Oakland is burning but not that clear. Edited October 5, 2020 by porgie66
Inthelateafternoon
I have the initial tapes on godfather, but isn't that version edited? Is there a complete version from the multi-tracks or soundboard around?

Inthelateafternoon
Is there any reason they didn't release the full version in DVD?
rm2551
Wow, just goes to show, there is scope for a killer offering from Page and Co. Royal Albert Hall SDBS. Followed of course by the "5 Glorious Nights" SDBS. Naturally, you would have to then throw a Knebworth SDBS together - which could include the Copenhagen gigs cleaned up with the latest audio restoration technology. Wishful thinking, but why not dream?

Just a guess but either too many copyright issues or maybe Page thought the performance sounded a little chaotic. He tends to want to only release things that a polished more than a new penny (except for TSRTS movie which is an edited nightmare). He needs to hire “ledzepfilm” to take all the known footage and edit each night separately first to see what footage actually exists from each night and then compile it all into one complete show. It may also be because not all the footage from Long Tall Sally is available. I have an 'unauthorized' version of RAH on video, and a lot of alternate footage accompanies this song. A stretch where the image is reversed even. Jimmy and JPJ playing lefty!
