RIP Eddie Van Halen...

When Eddie made no promotional appearances last Autumn following the release of "The Japanese Singles" Box Set we suspected he was indeed receiving more extensive treatment for cancer. A photo released a few months later revealed a noticeably more gaunt but seemingly optimistic EVH. I do not want to accept this as the outcome.

I posted this already in the RIP thread

Whilst not being huge in the UK, I'll always remember going to 2 Rock Clubs in Manchester in the 70's. The Pheonix on a Friday and UMIST (University of Manchester Science and Technology) on a Saturday. They first played VH Eruption and You Really Got me and the place was stunned. WE had  never heard anything like it. RIP Eddie and thanks for that memory.

They also got kicked off Black Sabbath's 1978 world tour in the UK. No surprise there. Didn't someone post a recording of the Manchester show recently?

Also "I can clearly see clearly now " singer Johnny Nash has passed.

Been cranking Van Halen all day and all night. Finishing the night off with this early nugget. Deep in the recesses of my record collection is Nicolette Larson's 1978 debut album "Nicolette". Primarily known for her cover of Neil Young's "Lotta Love". However, Eddie Van Halen makes an uncredited appearance on the song "Can't Get Away From You".

It wasn't officially acknowledged until years later by Nicolette because Eddie didn't want fans to be confused by his name appearing on the album. Many people know about Eddie guesting on Michael Jackson and Patty Smythe songs. But this was Eddie's first guest appearance. Enjoy and good night. R.I.P. EVH.

After work I went with friends to lay some flowers and pay respects at Eddie Van Halen's handprints and plaque at the Rock Walk of Fame at the Hollywood Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd. Eddie's Frankenstrat is on display there, too.

Been a rough week. He was a friend. I was heartened to see this memorial pop up in front of Allen Villa liquor, where Ed and Al had written Van Halen in the wet cement back in '76

Nice. Sorry for your loss. He was my first rock god, growing up in upstate NY. My connection to the LA scene, a ray of sunshine for a kid in a dreary small town in the “snow belt”. It’s hit me hard this week but I’ve been listening to new live stuff I’ve never heard before and studio stuff from the Hagar and VH III era that I haven’t heard in a long time or ever in some circumstances. Feel horrible for Al and Wolf. ✌🏼❤️🎸

Had the day off so I took my nephew to see where the legend began and pay respects. First a visit to the childhood home of Eddie and Alex Van Halen at 1881 Las Lunas St. It was here in the shed behind the house that the boys would practice and play.

Around the corner and down Allen a couple blocks from their home is the M & S Liquor Store...aka the Van Halen Liquor Store. This is where the boys carved the Van Halen name in wet cement in 1976. They did it twice. The one directly outside the liquor store was painted over later in green paint. But you can still faintly see the graffiti. The Eddie tributes now take up a good stretch of the sidewalk.
