Many great bands and artists have been mentioned, such as Black Keys, Janis, New Order, Humble Pie, Ryan Adams and Cure.. Many I haven't heard as well, and have to check out.. Battles, Porcupine Tree etc, but I will do.

Great thread BTW!

Good call! I didn't get into them until very recently. It definitely took me several listens, but now I'm hooked. Atlas is a great track, as is Tras

Recommendation I'm listening to now:

Black Mountain

They're a Canadian band and have been playing together since 2005. Stephen McBean plays lead guitar and sings, along with Amber Webber (great vocal combination, in my opinion). Matt Camirand, Jeremy Schmidt, Joshua Wells round out bass, keys, and drums. They definitely harken back to Zeppelin and Sabbath, and sometimes venture on the experimental side (moreso with what should make up their upcoming album, I think). Like Zeppelin, they do both soft and heavy exceptionally well, and like Sabbath they've got some excellent, driving riffs.

I saw them last month and they put on a GREAT show.

They have one album out now Black Mountain (2005) and another, In the Future, that's due out January 21.

The song that did it for me:

Another good one: Heart Of Snow (I'd be more helpful and post another link if I weren't stuck with dial-up for the weekend  )

Anyway, should any of you choose to check them out, hope you enjoy!

Everyone should check out some Ugly Duckling.

Genre: Alternative hip hop, rap.

Short History:

Ugly Duckling are a hip hop trio, formed in 1993 in Long Beach, California. Ugly Duckling's members are Dizzy Dustin, Young Einstein and Andy Cooper. Their style is alternative hip hop, influenced especially by old school performers such as the Zulu Nation and the Native Tongues Posse. Most of their songs follow the creed that hip hop is about having fun and often mock the clichéd gangster rappers who dominate the mainstream. An example of this can be heard in the song "A Little Samba" and "Smack" in which they rap about the enormous wealth mainstream rappers brag about, and the ridiculous nature of their possessions, such as gold name plates on their cars, pet sharks and jetting off to Bermuda on private planes.

Similar To: Jurassic 5, De La Soul.

Reccomended Albums: Taste The Secret, Bang For The Buck but all their albums are awesome.

Joe Bonamassa

“This kid deserves to be in the same class with Stevie Ray F*&cking Vaughan and Jimmy Hendrix and Jeff Beck.” - Ted Nugent

Great choice TULedHead- I just saw Joe at BB Kings in NYC last month- excellent show!

Joe has a cd called "You & Me" on which he does a great version of "Tea For One" with Jason Bonham on drums.

The Answer, sorry cant do that link thing. Check out their album - Rise. Seriously Zep'esque if you want my opinion.

Got that and seen 'em live.

I love Preachin'

Their singer's trying a bit too hard to imitate Plant IMHO. But they certainly rock! :D

Ok here goes.

Brinsley Schwarz

wiki info

a tune for you

This band featured Nick Lowe and IMO was one of the best bands of their era 69-74. I doubt I can decribe them any better than Wiki can but I will say this, I still think these guys were better than The Band and received far less credit. Out of all the bands that have embraced country, roots and Americana I truly feel they were right up there with the Flying Burrito Bros. Which BTW is another great band folks should check out.

and

Savoy Brown

wiki info

This band was and is severely underrated, IMO they were the best British blues\rock band of their time. Seriously I think they were better than Fleetwood Mac. Same goes for Kim Simmonds, their guitarist, IMO he should be talked about with the likes of Page, Green and Clapton.

Savoy Brown was great, I love all the albums with singer Chris Youlden. Please check out "Getting to the point," "Blue matter," "A step further" and "Raw Sienna," it's all good.

Nearly as great as P Green's Fleetwood Mac. B)

It's at Leeds Met University. Can't wait!!! Your brother can get my autograph for you! So long as he brings yours for me.

 Ah, maybe it's not the same gig then.

I might be a day out either side or something.

Unless they're not playing in Manchester or Preston and he is indeed going to Leeds.

I'm pretty sure it's in Manchester though...

Ugh.

Yes, they are. Seriously Zepplinesque.

And that's their problem.

Rocco Deluca and the Burden:

Album - I Trust You to Kill Me

Myspace - http://www.myspace.com/roccodeluca

Official Site - http://www.roccodeluca.com

I recommend checking out the myspace one cause it has more samples of their music.

It's kind of bluesy rock, Rocco's got a unique voice. I've seen them live twice this year and they're amazing.

Seriously. I can't see no reference at all between The Answer and Zeppelin, it's not even close to Zeppelin, at least musicaly. They have more in common with late 80's sleaze rock and indie rock or 90's Aerosmith than anything Zep or Free or whatever..

..and they are not my cup of tea. :D

That is a great call! Joe is a seriously great blues guitarist!

Joe Bonamassa - Blues Jam

He does a great cover of 'Tea For One' on his album, 'You And Me' too..

Every blues fan should check him out.. He's got great feel, as well as amazing technical proficiency..

I love Preachin'

I prefer the Fleetwood Mac version of that song with Jeremy Spencer ripping it up on slide! :D

On the subject of The Answer... Like people have said before me.. they're just too much of a 70's blues/rock rip-off for me... I saw them live at Hyde Park last year when they were on the bill of Hyde Park Calling... It's all just bombast with no dynamics... Like most newer bands, who don't get that light & shade aspect..
