mickey g
Don't recall seeing Jimmy ever playing this LP. I assume it was one of Jeff Beck's ? h/t Michael Lazarus Scott
sixpense
Yes, it is Jeff's. I believe this around late 66 when left the Yardbirds. Here is another pic earlier in the year with Clapton at the Marquee. Marquee Club, Soho, Central London. May 3, 1966

He destroyed it then quit the band (...actually, he was fired). Oct 30, 1966, Corpus Christi, Texas Jeff Beck: "I've smashed my Les Paul, and what's more, it wasn't an accident. I picked it up, swung it by the neck above my head and smashed it on the floor. The neck came away and the pickups flew in two directions. Jimmy Page was horrified, but so was I when I realized what I'd done a bit later." Edited September 30, 2021 by thozil
BobDobbs
I wonder if that was the original pick guard? The shape of it looks much more cut with sharp angles compared to the typical rounded angles. I have never seen a pick guard like that on a LP. Was reading that Les Paul Forum thread & someone said he then brought it to a luthier & when he got it back & played it, the same thing happened, he was so dissatisfied with how it played. Mikelangelo
Does this guitar-smashing incident bear resemblance to the scene in "Blow Up" or what?! Beck smashed a guitar there too 😆
