You mean there really are other Gentle Giant fans out there? I don't feel so all alone now.

Believe it or not...there are several here ! :)

Matter of fact, there's quite the progrock crew in the midst of these forums......thanks for tuning in.

Nice screename. One of my favorite beers is Redhook IPA...and they're slogan is/was... Ya sure ? Ya betcha !!!

How's about PFM, King Crimson, Zappa.....you a fan ?

3 more, in a row, of outstanding musical progress ...

Jethro Tull :

Benefit

Aqualung

Thick as a Brick

Yah, a fan of prog rock. Old Genesis, GG, Camel, Tull, ELP, Crack the Sky, Tubes, Sparks (how did that stuff get in there?) and old Hard Rock too, Uriah Heep, Purple, Montrose, Captain Beyond and, of course, Zep.

Max Webster - 1st LP

High Class In Borrowed Shoes

Mutiny Up My Sleeve

Although I must say that Lily, off the first, or Blockheads album is just an amazingly emotional song. Kim's best, I think.

Spinal Tap:

Intravenus De Milo

The Gospel According To Spinal Tap ("This ponderous, pretentious collection of religious rock songs prompts the question: 'On what day of the week did the Lord create Spinal Tap, and couldn't he have rested on that day too?'")

Shark Sandwich

 , best leap here.

No one has said this one yet, Led Zeppelin 1, Led Zeppelin 2, and Led Zeppelin 3. Someone said 3, 4, and HOTH, though.

Holy Crap! AND a Max Webster fan too?

One of my fave bands, saw them numerous times in the '70's. Sadly they were way ahead of their time, but did have a huge cult following in the UK

Dang, most of the one's I'd have went for have been mentioned!

DEAD KENNEDYS

Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables - Punk, brittle guitars

Plastic Surgery Disasters - Hardcore Punk, Shiny surf guitars

Frankenchrist - Punk with great melodies and great playing which sums up their next and last LP too.

U2

War

The Unforgettable Fire (Which I dislike intensely)

The Joshua Tree

JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE

Are You Experienced

Axis: Bold As Love

Electric Ladyland

and LZ I, II & III

I may disagree on the Chicago.I think they digressed fom CTA,but all 3 are still great albums.

I would agree with Kaz on Pablo Honey, The Bends, and OK Computer. To me, OK Computer was their apex, then Kid A was a step back (many would not agree, I know, but I think it was too inaccessible and not as cohesive).

Wilco A.M.>Being There>Summerteeth

A slow, logical and natural progression but there's nothing on A.M. that even slightly hints at what would lie ahead on Summerteeth.

Hm, I don't know; doesn't "Dash 7" sound like it could be on Summerteeth?

I'd have to say:

The Bends --> Ok Computer --> Kid A

I'm sure it's already been said, but these three albums, to me, signify the epitome of progression.

Not sure, I'll have to give it a spin. It's been too long since I listened to that record anyway.

I might have to go with The Dictators.

1975/Go Girl Crazy - heavy metal comedy album. Nobody got it, especially Epic Records. the bands was dropped from the label. Instant classic.

1977/Manifest Destiny - Great record, but still misunderstood.

1978/Bloodbrothers - The band was playing like their lives/careers depended on it and it did. Manitoba was on lead vocals 100%. Ross the Boss, a heavy metal/punk/rock lead guitar player, later went on to fame with Manowar.

I'd probably do Being There > Summerteeth > Yankee Hotel Foxtort. With BT, they had a country-rock sound with Exile on Main Street-like influences, then went on to the heavily Beatlesesque Summerteeth, and then finally (IMO), peaked with YHF with a unique sound of their own, yet blending all their influences together to create that sound.

It's kind of mindblowing how much they changed within a span of 6 years.

A few bands that progressed exceptionally within 3 albums to me....

Talk Talk

The Colour of Spring

Spirit of Eden

Laughing Stock

You could equally go with Its My Life>Colour of Spring>Spirit of Eden, either way I'd say thats one of the most supprizing I'v ever heard. To go from a poor man's(albeit a poor man with slightly better taste :D) Duran Duran to pretty much inventing post rock was a massive jump.

Two of Hollis's main inspirations were pretty big aswell...

Can

Monster Movie

Soundtracks

Tago Mago

Miles Davis

In A Silent Way

Bitches Brew

A Tribute to Jack Johnson

Yeah, and one could probably chose another three by Dylan that not already been mentioned by us.

Another three albums with great progress are:
