PlanetPage
Jimmy said they began tour rehearsals "a month before Christmas" (1976), took a break over the holidays then held a month of uninterrupted rehearsals at Manticore in Fulham in January, "usually ten hours a day". If I recall correctly, Sam posted some of the photos previously in this thread or elsewhere on this site. I've got to get downtown at the moment but I will provide a link when I return if no one posts them here again. ...this earlier in this thread... SteveAJones
...this earlier in this thread... http://forums.ledzep.../page__st__2580 I'll add 'Custard Pie', 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You' and 'Candy Store Rock' were rehearsed but dropped prior to the tour. ...and here's two more photos, including a shot of Jimmy with the pedal steel as Wolfman requested: Edited January 6, 2010 by SteveAJones

thozil
Slightly different Here are a few other pics from around the same time (Bonzo has the same shirt) - (A&M studios, April 1969, Los Angeles, CA ??) Wolfman
Thanks guys. It's amazing how much leaner Jimmy got throughout the tour. 1977 should have been their best tour but we know what happened (imo it's still Bonzo's best though). SteveAJones
Thanks guys. It's amazing how much leaner Jimmy got throughout the tour. He wasn't eating solid foods on first leg (April 1977) for as he explained he was attempting to "photosynthesize like a plant". Their April 9th Chicago gig was halted and called off after about 45 minutes when Jimmy fainted onstage.

Cecil.
Thanks, Aquamarine, that may explain why the person I obtained it from also shows it was "Aug 1968, Gerrard Street". However, I just don't think any of the buildings on Gerrard Street had what appear to be those elevators behind them. JPJ said the rehearsal site address was 39 Gerrard Street, so perhaps one of our greater London-based forum members can inquire/do a bit of field research to confirm or disprove the photo description is accurate. I wish I had known this the last time I was on Gerrard Street as I would have done so myself. Steve, that picture was not taken on Gerrard st. I am sure it one of those come and meet the band pictures. Could it have been taken at Peter Grant/Mickie Most Offices? Oxford st? If it is the same pic, it had Atlantic on the picture or some such. not much help I know

Still inclined to believe it was a hotel lobby but again it remains unconfirmed.

Grant/Most was that RAK I have seen the picture before, by come & meet I mean that 1960's singer is/ guitarist is, promo type stuff. Just cannot remember where I saw the picture. I have photos of the building but not with me; ten stories or so. When Grant set up Swan Song at 484 Kings Road in Chelsea he moved his office there, on the top floor in the center of that building. FireOpal
He wasn't eating solid foods on first leg (April 1977) for as he explained he was attempting to "photosynthesize like a plant". Crikey, I thought he was just joking re: the photosynthesis. I wonder if the Manticore studio is still in existence. It looks like it wasn't big on creature comforts, kind of like a dilapidated factory.

It sounds more dramatic , but it didn't happen that way. Jimmy signaled something to his roadie during 10 Years Gone and a chair was placed in front of the drum riser. Page took a seat slouched in a 45-degree angle and remained in that position until the song's conclusion. All of the band then surrounded Jimmy and then escorted him off the stage. That seems silly. Jimmy has never been one for the sun that I know of, except his days in Hawaii. He's a paleface! Maybe he was working on his moontan! I didn't mean to suggest there was a dramatic dead drop, and others have alluded to everything from stomach issues to China White. In any event, while he was probably speaking tongue in cheek about his rationale for his diet, he was also running everything thru a blender at the time and did say he was "off solids". SteveAJones
The first rehearsal took place in a basement, which would also explain the elevators. That thought has come to mind, however they look far too narrow to be cargo elevators and two seems excessive for such a small building. I'm not saying it wasn't taken there, I am saying I'm skeptical and seeking substantiation.
kerew
Here comes my mystery.. In 1974 Led Zep said "We examined a Turkish man's rythm infrastructure for years. And his name is 'Orhan Gencebay'" in their interview on the magazine called "Vanity Fair" . Is thıs true Zeppers ?

There have been all kinds of speculations though. You can google George Pickingill.

SteveAJones
I think no one here can tell this for sure. There have been all kinds of speculations though. You can google George Pickingill. I agree it is probably a representation of George Pickingill, as discussed previously in this thread. The tale Jimmy has told of he and Robert finding that painting at a thrift shop in Reading sounds ludicrous when contrasted against his explanation of the intricate meaning associated with it, not to mention the fact it hangs on the front of Led Zeppelin's fourth album.
