What's next ? Britney Spears?

Yes. They already have a mannequin on display at the Hall sporting some of her stage clothes.

Just hearing the name Madonna makes my blood boil. I cant stand the arrogant bitch. They are going to turn it into the Hall of Shame. I have never been there. Would only be interested in seeing the bands I love Like Zeppelin, Stones, Beatles, Who, Skynnyrd, Eagles, Pink Floyd, Etc. And some of the old 50s bands that had so many great oldies. I should have mentioned the Beach Boys too. how can I leave them out.

I know some have mixed feelings about the Hall itself but I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there. There was a Dylan exhibit going on that was put together by the Experience Music Project out of Seattle that was one of several highlights of my visit. There was also a record convention going on that included lots of rare albums and old rock magazines. I don't think I found a thing I was looking for but I had a damn good time just flipping through all the old records.

Yes, to all of the above although I don't remember the admission being incredibily expensive, maybe $20 (and I got a free subscription to Rolling Stone). However, I don't recommend the food there. At least at the restaurant we ate at, it was horrible and extremely overpriced.

For me I like to think that "Rock & Roll' is a counter-culture as compared to the pro-current-fashion type of music that main-stream dictates. I guess it all depends on where and how you grew up. And what side were you hanging with. In my day........Rock & roll and Hard Rock was the counter-culture. We listen only to Led Zepp, Pink Floyd, The rolling stones, the Beatles, Cream, Lynerd Skkynerd (I know I miss spelled) Alman Brothers. Just to name a few. These groups were all apart of the counter- culture that I belonged to. We did not like pop-idols like Madonna....or Donna Summers.....or any of these groups that were considered part of the culture. There was a deviding line. You either hung out with the nerds.......or you hung out with the rock & roll hippies. There was no cross-over bullshit.

And it was excellent. And I'm sorry for the new generation missing out on that time. Yes you have all the great cd's to listen to. But you're not actually experiencing what we had. Believe or not. There was more places to go hang and party. There were some objections to us. But we were many. We were actually the Majority who said told the establishment to go F-ucck them selves.....and stood by it!!!!! Period. And we would party anywhere. Anytime. And......above all. still had the sense to take care of ourselves and be responsible for our lives. Today's music.......well let's put it this way.....in about twenty years from now.....there's not going to be to many who enter the Hall of Fame.....unless it's for sympathy.............as far as Madonna......well she's kind of a phony.....in the eighties she stood for opennin her legs and inviting the sexuall experience of the independent woman. Than when the nineties hit........she became some what of a religious woman. (So not to say that change is bad....but she kind of made her-self a phony.........

You hit the nail on the head. The birth of R&R changed music forever. Artists were striking new ground and going places not imagined before or after. Part of it was the chemicals I'm sure, but they were innocent and safe then which is strange because the music was (and is) wet, wild and free. Where I live you never knew who you would run into in clubs or who would sit in with the house band. Music was ALIVE.

Oh, you left out one major contributor--Frank Zappa.
