BongoBeardy
Hello all... I have been a Zep fan and a drummer for over 20 years..a few years back began playing conga and bongos hence the name..(given to me by a promoter!) anyway...my uncle used to play conga too in the mid to late 70s..i remember seeing his collection of congas..esp the Natal yellow splash congas..( iwas about 7) so..time has passed and so has my uncle..(god bless him)..and i always badgered him for these congas..so they were left to me.. they came in original leather strapped cases and the top of a blue metal stand. I can recall one story told about the congas, that they were lifted off the back of a very large rock n roll lorry in the mid to late 70s. So i was shocked when i bought the led zep 3 disc dvd set..and on the earls court gig...John Bonham has the same congas...and using a blue metal stand!! it never clicked at the time..as i remember Micky Finn ( T Rex) having the same congas but a black with red splash version ( i must sound so anal right now!) i have done some research and have not come up with any clues as to how many of these congas were produced..or if they were one offs presented to drummers/bands to promote the brand (which was suggested?) So..can anyone help or know of any one who could help..by matching the splashes on my congas to the one of the footage?..or to validate the story of Johns congas going missing on this tour..(as they never feature again on any footage..believe me i've checked) anyway... get in touch if you know yer stuff...or if you know some of the old road crew drum tech. cheers.. BB ps i will try a list a photo of the congas soon. Edited January 18, 2008 by BongoBeardy
