Jarlaxle 56 Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I enjoy Tool's cover of No Quarter, I'm also quite partial to APC's cover of Imagine. Some other good ones: Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of Voodoo Child by Jimi Hendrix Johnny Cash's covers of Rusty Cage by Soundgarden and Hurt by NIN Rage Against The Machine's cover of Maggie's Farm by Bob Dylan Pearl Jam's cover of Rockin' In The Free World by Neil Young Nightwish's cover of Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth Quote
NickZepp Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 (edited) Johnny Cash's best cover is Hurt. Even if it was overplayed it's a great cover. The best cover song ever is probably Respect by Aretha which was an Otis Redding tune. Edited January 19, 2008 by NickZepp Quote
mladyria Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Robert did a nice job covering Moby Grape/Jerry Miller songs~Naked if I want To and 8:05~ Quote
Electrophile Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Simply Red - If You Don't Know Me By Now Mariah Carey - Without You Sarah Brightman - Whiter Shade Of Pale Quote
Kissandra Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I love everything these artists have covered: The Black Keys Free Led Zeppelin Mariah Carey Generally I don't like covers because they're usually great songs butchered, but theirs are great. Another great one is Ryan Adams' rendition of Oasis' 'Wonderwall'. Love it. Quote
MHD Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Newton Faulkner does a grand job of Massive Attacks "Teardrop". Quote

They are a great band but they take the mick out of themselves by playing Toxic here, really well I might add: Check out this too...a guy called Andy McKee covering Africa by Toto: Andy McKee - Africa Quote
GAC64 Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Queensryche covered U2's "Bullet the Blue Sky", live at the House of Blues in Vegas-Q2K tour. One of the best covers I've ever heard! Quote

Black Crowes- Can't You Hear Me Knocking (Stones) Supergrass- Condition (an old Kenny Rogers tune, but it SMOKES! ) Stone Temple Pilots- Revolution (Beatles) Ian Astbury w/ The Fuzztones- Down On The Street (Stooges) Led Zeppelin- Louie Louie (played 6-25-72..holy shit!!!) Band Of Joy- Hey Joe, For What It's Worth (Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield) Jerry Cantrell- Brain Damage (Pink Floyd, and he fuckin' NAILS it!!!) Edited January 25, 2008 by Rock Action Quote
Jahfin Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 (edited) Band Of Joy- Hey Joe, For What It's Worth (Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield) Hendrix' version is actually a cover, it was originally done by a band called The Leaves. While it's clear it's definitely not a Hendrix original, there does seem to be some dispute over the authorship of the original version: http://www.tsimon.com/heyjoe.htm Edited January 25, 2008 by Jahfin Quote
Electrophile Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 (edited) The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man The Byrds - My Back Pages Edited January 25, 2008 by Electrophile Quote
Day Tripper Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 (edited) I generally love most anything The Greenhornes cover, particularly "Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand" (originally The Who) and "Lost Woman" (Yardbirds). The White Stripes' cover of The Soledad Brothers' "St. Ides of March" blows the original away. The Black Keys' cover of "Have Love Will Travel," generally the version done by The Sonics but originally written by Chuck Berry. The Gun Club's cover of "Preachin' Blues" by Robert Johnson... good lord. HOWEVER, I'm pretty sure the greatest cover ever is The Jimi Hendrix Experience covering "All Along The Watchtower." Bob Dylan's is amazing, no doubt, but MY GOD, the JHE takes it above and beyond. Edited January 25, 2008 by Day Tripper Quote
Electrophile Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 (edited) Metallica- Turn the page I've heard this version. I disagree. Edited January 26, 2008 by Electrophile Quote
