This one always gets me...............RIP brother James!! :(

This is a man's world, this is a man's world

But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

You see, man made the cars to take us over the road

Man made the trains to carry heavy loads

Man made electric light to take us out of the dark

Man made the boat for the water, like Noah made the ark

This is a man's, a man's, a man's world

But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

Man thinks about a little baby girls and a baby boys

Man makes then happy 'cause man makes them toys

And after man has made everything, everything he can

You know that man makes money to buy from other man

This is a man's world

But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

He's lost in the wilderness

He's lost in bitterness

This song is, if not in it words, but in it´s melancholy bluesy melody

sadly, but also very beautiful one.

Listen to it.

Mourning Sad Morning by Free

FRASER/RODGERS

Sunday morning I rise

and I stand to face a new dawn

Sunday morning a new day is born

such a long way to go

and so little time to get there

such a long way to go

but I want you to remember

all the love we used to know

think of me sometimes

my love.

Morning morning, sad day

Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!

Morning morning, sad day

Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!

In the evening I sit

and my thoughts they turn to you

in the evening I think of my home

and I need you to remember

all the love we used to know

think of me sometimes

my love

Morning morning, sad day

Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!

Morning morning, sad day

Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!

Mmmmm....

Hello walls, (Hello, hello.)

How'd things go for you today?

Don't you miss her.

Since she up and walked away?

And I'll bet you dread to spend another lonely night with me,

But lonely walls, I'll keep you company.

Hello window, (Hello, hello.)

Well, I see that you're still here.

Aren't you lonely,

Since our darlin disappeared?

Well look here, is that a teardrop in the corner of your pane?

Now don't you try to tell me that's it's rain.

She went away and left us all alone the way she planned.

Guess we'll have to learn to get along without her if we can.

Hello ceiling, (Hello, hello.)

I'm gonna stare at you a while.

You know I can't sleep,

So won't you bear with me a while?

We gotta all stick together or else I'll lose my mind.

I gotta feelin' she'll be gone a long, long time.

(Hello, hello wall.)

Hello Walls

Ian Hunter "You Nearly Did Me In " gets me every time.

Oh and this one - Michael Picasso, which he wrote for Mick Ronson. Just lovely, and so sad.

Once upon a time

Not so long ago

People used to stand and stare

At the spider with the platinum hair

They thought you were immortal

We had our ups and downs

Like brothers often do

But I was there for him

He was always there for me

And we were there for you

How can I put into words

What my heart feels?

It's the deepest thing

When somebody you love dies

I just wanted

To give something back to you

Gift to gift

Michael, michael picasso good night

You used to love our house

You said it was relaxing

Now I walk in the places you walk

I talk in all the spaces you talk

It still hasn't sunk in

Are the words real

That come into my head

On a morning walk?

Do the shadows

Play tricks with my mind?

For it feels like

Nothing has changed

But I know it has

Michael, michael picasso

Good night

Heal me

Won't you

Heal me?

Nothing lasts forever

Set me free

Heal me

Won't you

Heal me?

I'm the one who's left here

Heal me

Heal me

Heal me

You turned into a ghost

Surrounded by your pain

And the thing that I liked the least

Was sitting 'round Hasker Street

Lying about the future

And we all sit

In a room full of tears

On a windy day

And I look back

But none of these words seem right

I just wanted

To give something back to you

Gift to gift

Michael, michael picasso

Good night

oh yeah, this was from a group called "Mason Proffit"...

whoops, forgot to post the lyrics!!!

AS I RODE INTO TOMBSTONE MY HORSE HIS NAME WAS MAC

I SAW WHAT I’LL RELATE TO YOU GOIN’ ON BEHIND MY BACK

IT SEEMS THE FOLKS WERE UP IN ARMS

A MAN NOW HAD TO DIE

FOR BELIEVING THINGS THAT DIDN’T FIT

THE LAWS THEY’D SET ASIDE

IT SEEMS HE WAS A SIMPLE MAN AS BEST AS I COULD SEE

HE WAS AN EXCECUTIONER, A HANGMAN JUST LIKE ME

I GUESS THAT HE’D SEEN LOOPHOLES FROM WORKIN WITH HIS NOOSE

HE’D HUNG THE WRONG MAN MANY TIMES TO COVER UP THE TRUTH

HE’D TALKED TO ALL THE PEOPLE FROM HIS SCAFFOLD IN THE SQUARE

HE TOLD THEM OF THE THINGS HE’D FOUND

BUT THEY DIDN’T SEEM TO CARE

SO WHAT IF SOMEONE HAD TO DIE

TO KEEP -A RICHES IN THEIR HANDS

THEY LAUGHED AT HIM AND WALKED AWAY

HE DIDN’T UNDERSTAND

AND SO THE HIGH SHERIFE CAME AROUND

HE SAID HE’D HAD ENOUGH

HE’D MAKE THE HANGMAN SHUT HIS MOUTH

AND PUT AN END TO ALL THIS STUFF

HE FINALLY ARRESTED HIM

AND THEN HE SENT FOR ME

TO HANG A FELLOW HANGMAN

FROM A FELLOW HANGMANS TREE

IT DIDN’T TAKE THEM LONG TO TRY HIM

IN THEIR COURT OF LAW

HE WAS GUILTY OF HONESTY

A CRIME WORSE THAN ALL

THEY SENTENCED HIM TO DIE

SO THE SEEDS OF LOVE CAN’T SPREAD

AND INFECT THE LITTLE CHILDREN

THAT’S WHAT THE LAW HAD SAID

SO THE HANGIN’ DAY CAME ROUND

AND HE WALKED UP TO THE NOOSE

I PULLED THE LEVER BUT BEFORE HE FEEL I CUT HIM LOOSE

THEY CALLED IT ALL CONSPIRACY AND THAT I HAD TO DIE

SO TO CLOSE OUR MOUTHS A

ND KILL OUR MINDS

THEY HUNG US SIDE BY SIDE

AND NOW WE’RE TWO HANGMEN HANGIN FROM A TREE

THAT DON’T BOTHER ME AT ALL

Walk in silence,

Dont walk away, in silence.

See the danger,

Always danger,

Endless talking,

Life rebuilding,

Dont walk away.

Walk in silence,

Dont turn away, in silence.

Your confusion,

My illusion,

Worn like a mask of self-hate,

Confronts and then dies.

Dont walk away.

People like you find it easy,

Naked to see,

Walking on air.

Hunting by the rivers,

Through the streets,

Every corner abandoned too soon,

Set down with due care.

Dont walk away in silence,

Dont walk away.

Adagio for Strings - Samuel Barber.

This was played at the Albert Hall on the 'Last Night of the Proms' not long after 9/11. I was in Hyde Park for 'Proms in the Park' and the whole place was completely silent, just about everyone was crying. It’s always brought a lump to my throat but even more so now that I associate it with those tragic events.

Just 2 Days after 9/11, I went to a 9/11 Memorial service at the Broadway Baptist Church in Ft. Worth. We drove through a torrential downpour that afternoon to get there. The Ft. Worth Symphony Orchestra flawlessly performed that piece. I was already familiar with the work, from it's masterful and cinematic use in Oliver Stone's "Platoon".

I was so moved and impressed to hear it performed live, that I went out the very next day, and drove into Dallas, to a Classical Record shop, and purchased the Digitally Remastered the New York Philharmonic version conducted by Thomas Schippers, from 1965 [sony Classical Masterworks Heritage MHK 62837].

***********************

There is another "Adagio" that is poignant, and is very moving to me....

It's "Gayaneh's Adagio" by the Armenian Composer Aram Khachaturian, as used by Stanley Kubrick in his Science-Fiction Masterpiece "2001: A Space Odyssey". It so perfectly exemplifies the loneliness of inter-planetary space travel in that film. I found a version conducted by the Composer in 1962, with the Wiener Philharmonic in Vienna, Austria. [London (Decca) 417 732-2] It's 4:17.

"That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" was the opening track on Carly Simon's self-titled debut/studio album, released in February 1971. The album was released by Elektra Records and produced by Eddie Kramer, who had previously worked with Joe Cocker and Jimi Hendrix.

Jacob Brackman, the lyricist, met Carly Simon in 1968 when they were both working as counselors at a summer camp in the Berkshires. The two became close friends.

Carly Simon's father was Richard L. Simon (co-founder of Simon & Schuster, Inc.), an accomplished pianist who often played Chopin and Beethoven at home. Her mother was Andrea Louise Simon a biracial (black and white) Jewish civil rights activist and singer. Carly was raised in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, NY.

Carly Simon ~ Music ---and--- Jacob Brackman ~ Lyrics

"That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be"

My father sits at night with no lights on

His cigarette glows in the dark.

The living room is still;

I walk by, no remark.

I tiptoe past the master bedroom where

My mother reads her magazines.

I hear her call sweet dreams,

But I forgot how to dream.

But you say it's time we moved in together

And raised a family of our own, you and me -

Well, that's the way I've always heard it should be:

You want to marry me, we'll marry.

My friends from college they're all married now;

They have their houses and their lawns.

They have their silent noons,

Tearful nights, angry dawns.

Their children hate them for the things they're not;

They hate themselves for what they are-

And yet they drink, they laugh,

Close the wound, hide the scar.

But you say it's time we moved in together

And raised a family of our own, you and me -

Well, that's the way I've always heard it should be:

You want to marry me, we'll marry.

You say we can keep our love alive

Babe - all I know is what I see -

The couples cling and claw

And drown in love's debris.

You say we'll soar like two birds through the clouds,

But soon you'll cage me on your shelf -

I'll never learn to be just me first

By myself.

Well O.K., it's time we moved in together

And raised a family of our own, you and me -

Well, that's the way I've always heard it should be,

You want to marry me, we'll marry,

We'll marry.

Glad you reminded me of that song and gave the background to it....very beautiful. I used to play it whenever I felt down, haven't heard it since the 70s.

"Abraham, Martin and John"

by Dick Holler

Has anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?

Can you tell me where he's gone?

He freed a lot of people,

But it seems the good die young,

Now I just looked around and he's gone.

Has anybody here seen my old friend John?

Can you tell me where he's gone?

He freed a lot of people,

But it seems the good die young,

Now I just looked around and he's gone.

Has anybody here seen my old friend Martin?

Can you tell me where he's gone?

He freed a lot of people,

But it seems the good die young,

Now I just looked around and he's gone.

Didn't you love the things they stood for?

Didn't they try to find some good for you and me?

An' we'll be free, someday

I know we'll one day.

Has anybody here seen my old friend Bobby?

Can you tell me where he's gone?

Thought I see them walkin'

Up over the hill
