Electrophile Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Lake Shore Drive - Aliotta-Haynes-Jeremiah Talks about my hometown, and the lyrics are so descriptive, I can visualize what they're talking about when I close my eyes. I cry every time I hear it because it's home and I miss it. One line in the song is "And it’s 4 o’clock in the morning and all the people have gone away Just you and your mind and Lake Shore Drive tomorrow is another day".....nothing like driving that stretch of road with no one around, just you and the water. dragster Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 1000 miles away by Hoodoo Gurus.....deicated to all those who are "always 1000 miles away"..... Estimated time of arrival 9.30 a.m. Been up before the sun and now I'm tired before I even begin. (Now you're flying) I got so much work in front of me, (Really flying) it stretches out far as the eye can see. I can see. Spend half my life in airports doing crosswords and attempting to sleep, And when the bar is open then you'll often find me warming a seat. (Now you're flying) I never find a place where I can stay (Really flying) I'd rather be a thousand miles away. Thousand miles away. Working for yourself sometimes ain't all that it's cracked up to be. It can be as lonely at the top as at the bottom of that corporate tree (Now you're flying) I'm told I'm going places - who can say ? (Really flying) I might arrive but I'll be gone the very next day. I must be on my way A thousand miles away. Promised to myself someday I'd take the time and try to make sense Out of all those opportunities I've lost from trying to sit on the fence (Now you're flying) But right now I've got no time for yesterday (Really flying) Yesterday's a thousand miles away. A thousand miles away. What was that that you were trying to say ? I guess I was a thousand miles away. Sing it again. Quote
dragster Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Come away Melinda by Uriah Heep........I'd shove this song in the faces of the warlords out there today!! Daddy, daddy, come and look See what I have found A little ways away from here While digging in the ground Come away melinda Come in and close the door Its nothing, just a picture-book They had before the war Daddy, daddy, come and see Daddy, come and look Why, theres four or five Little melinda girls Inside my picture book Come away melinda Come in and close the door There were lots of little girls like you Before they had the war Oh daddy, daddy, come and see Daddy, hurry do Why, theres someone In a pretty dress Shes all grown up like you Wont you tell me why Come away melinda Come in and close the door That someone is your mummy You had before the war Daddy, daddy, tell me if you can Why cant things be The way they were Before the war began Come away melinda Come in and close the door The answer lies in yesterday Before they had the war Quote
dragster Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 [The REAL enemy withing]......ponder people ponder........ Daddy please don't kiss me by (Lemmy) Motorhead.....what I'm surprised of is that a rock band went and did a song like this instead of all those pro-govt. organizations who do nothing else but FOSTER child abuse instead of fighting it!! Little girl sleeping in dreams of peace, Mommy's been gone a long time, Daddy comes home and she still sleeps, Waiting for the world's worst crime. And he comes up the stairs like he always does, And he never turns on the light, And she's wide awake, scared to death, She smells his lust and she smells his sweat Curled in a ball she holds her breath Praying to a God that she's never met Don't let daddy kiss me, Don't let daddy kiss me Good night Little girl lies by her daddy's side And she listens to him breathe She knows there's something awful wrong That she's far too young to see And she knows she can't tell anyone She's so full of guilt and shame, And if she tells she'll be all alone They'd steal her daddy and they'd steal her home And it's not so bad when daddy leaves her alone Praying to her God with his heart of stone Don't let daddy kiss me, Don't let daddy kiss me Good night Why, tell me why, the worst crime in the world And daddy lies by his daughter's side, And he sleeps both deep and well No nightmares come to him tonight, Though his daughter lives in hell For his seed is sown where it should not be And the beast in his mind don't care And the only sounds are the tears that fall Little girl turns her face to the wall She knows that no one hears her call, But it seems like God hears nothing at all Don't let daddy kiss me, Don't let daddy kiss me, Don't let daddy kiss me Good night Oh dear Quote

dragster Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Vincent - for many reasons............. Starry starry night paint your palette blue and grey look out on a summer's day with eyes that know the darkness in my soul. Shadows on the hills sketch the trees and the daffodils catch the breeze and the winter chills in colors on the snowy linen land. And now I understand what you tried to say to me how you suffered for your sanity how you tried to set them free. They would not listen they did not know how perhaps they'll listen now. Starry starry night flaming flo'rs that brightly blaze swirling clouds in violet haze reflect in Vincent's eyes of China blue. Colors changing hue morning fields of amber grain weathered faces lined in pain are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand. And now I understand what you tried to say to me how you suffered for your sanity how you tried to set them free. perhaps they'll listen now. For they could not love you but still your love was true and when no hope was left in sight on that starry starry night. You took your life as lovers often do; But I could have told you Vincent this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you. Starry starry night portraits hung in empty halls frameless heads on nameless walls with eyes that watch the world and can't forget. Like the stranger that you've met the ragged men in ragged clothes the silver thorn of bloddy rose lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow. And now I think I know what you tried to say to me how you suffered for your sanity how you tried to set them free. They would not listen they're not list'ning still perhaps they never will. Quote
dragster Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 AMERICAN PIE......the day the music died..... - for many reasons A long, long time ago... I can still remember How that music used to make me smile. And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while. But february made me shiver With every paper I’d deliver. Bad news on the doorstep; I couldn’t take one more step. I can’t remember if I cried When I read about his widowed bride, But something touched me deep inside The day the music died. So bye-bye, miss american pie. Drove my chevy to the levee, But the levee was dry. And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die. "this’ll be the day that I die." Did you write the book of love, And do you have faith in God above, If the Bible tells you so? Do you believe in rock ’n roll, Can music save your mortal soul, And can you teach me how to dance real slow? Well, I know that you’re in love with him `cause I saw you dancin’ in the gym. You both kicked off your shoes. Man, I dig those rhythm and blues. I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck With a pink carnation and a pickup truck, But I knew I was out of luck The day the music died. I started singin’, "bye-bye, miss american pie." Drove my chevy to the levee, But the levee was dry. Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die. "this’ll be the day that I die." Now for ten years we’ve been on our own And moss grows fat on a rollin’ stone, But that’s not how it used to be. When the jester sang for the king and queen, In a coat he borrowed from james dean And a voice that came from you and me, Oh, and while the king was looking down, The jester stole his thorny crown. The courtroom was adjourned; No verdict was returned. And while lennon read a book of marx, The quartet practiced in the park, And we sang dirges in the dark The day the music died. We were singing, "bye-bye, miss american pie." Drove my chevy to the levee, But the levee was dry. Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die. "this’ll be the day that I die." Helter skelter in a summer swelter. The birds flew off with a fallout shelter, Eight miles high and falling fast. It landed foul on the grass. The players tried for a forward pass, With the jester on the sidelines in a cast. Now the half-time air was sweet perfume While the sergeants played a marching tune. We all got up to dance, Oh, but we never got the chance! `cause the players tried to take the field; The marching band refused to yield. Do you recall what was revealed The day the music died? We started singing, "bye-bye, miss american pie." Drove my chevy to the levee, But the levee was dry. Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die. "this’ll be the day that I die." Oh, and there we were all in one place, A generation lost in space With no time left to start again. So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick! Jack flash sat on a candlestick Cause fire is the devil’s only friend. Oh, and as I watched him on the stage My hands were clenched in fists of rage. No angel born in hell Could break that satan’s spell. And as the flames climbed high into the night To light the sacrificial rite, I saw satan laughing with delight The day the music died He was singing, "bye-bye, miss american pie." Drove my chevy to the levee, But the levee was dry. Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die. "this’ll be the day that I die." I met a girl who sang the blues And I asked her for some happy news, But she just smiled and turned away. I went down to the sacred store Where I’d heard the music years before, But the man there said the music wouldn’t play. And in the streets: the children screamed, The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed. But not a word was spoken; The church bells all were broken. And the three men I admire most: The father, son, and the holy ghost, They caught the last train for the coast The day the music died. And they were singing, "bye-bye, miss american pie." Drove my chevy to the levee, But the levee was dry. And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die. "this’ll be the day that I die." They were singing, "bye-bye, miss american pie." Drove my chevy to the levee, But the levee was dry. Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die." Quote
dragster Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 CROCODILE ROCK - Elton John.........for many reasons.... I remember when rock was young Me and suzie had so much fun Holding hands and skimming stones Had an old gold chevy and a place of my own But the biggest kick I ever got Was doing a thing called the crocodile rock While the other kids were rocking round the clock We were hopping and bopping to the crocodile rock Well crocodile rocking is something shocking When your feet just cant keep still I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will Oh lawdy mama those friday nights When suzie wore her dresses tight And the crocodile rocking was out of sight But the years went by and the rock just died Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy Long nights crying by the record machine Dreaming of my chevy and my old blue jeans But theyll never kill the thrills weve got Burning up to the crocodile rock Learning fast as the weeks went past We really thought the crocodile rock would last Quote

John What have I got to do to make you love me What have I got to do to make you care What do I do when lightning strikes me And I wake to find that you're not there What do I do to make you want me What have I got to do to be heard What do I say when it's all over And sorry seems to be the hardest word It's sad, so sad It's a sad, sad situation And it's getting more and more absurd It's sad, so sad Why can't we talk it over Oh it seems to me That sorry seems to be the hardest word What do I do to make you love me What have I got to do to be heard What do I do when lightning strikes me What have I got to do What have I got to do When sorry seems to be the hardest word Quote

Today Today I feel like pleasing you more than before Today I know what I want to do but I don't know what for To be living for you is all I want to do To be loving you it'll all be there when my dreams come true Today you'll make me say that I somehow have changed Today you'll look into my eyes, I'm just not the same To be anymore than all I am would be a lie I'm so full of love I could burst apart and start to cry Today everything you want, I swear it all will come true Today I realize how much I'm in love with you With you standing here I could tell the world what it means to love To go on from here I can't use words, they don't say enough Please, please listen to me It's taken so long to come true And it's all for you all for you.... This summer I hear the drumming, Four dead in Ohio. Gotta get down to it Soldiers are cutting us down Should have been done long ago. What if you knew her And found her dead on the ground How can you run when you know? Gotta get down to it Soldiers are cutting us down Should have been done long ago. dragster Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 The Night They Drove ol Dixie Down (both Robertson's and Baez's version do the trick) Virgil Caine is the name and I served on the Danville train 'Til Stoneman's cavalry came and tore up the tracks again In the winter of '65, we were hungry, just barely alive By May the tenth, Richmond had fell, it's a time I remember oh so well The night they drove Old Dixie down and the bells were ringing The night they drove Old Dixie down and the people were singin', they went La-la-la la-la-la, la-la-la la-la-la, la-la-la-la Back with my wife in Tennessee, when one day she called to me "Virgil, quick, come see, there goes Robert E. Lee!" Now I don't mind choppin' wood, and I don't care if the money's no good Ya take what ya need and ya leave the rest But they should never have taken the very best The night they drove old Dixie down and the bells were ringing The night they drove old Dixie down and all the people were singin', they went Na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na-na Like my father before me, I will work the land And like my brother before me, who took a rebel stand He was just eighteen, proud and brave But a Yankee laid him in his grave I swear by the mud below my feet You can't raise a Caine back up when he's in defeat The night they drove old Dixie oown and the bells were ringing The night they drove old Dixie down and all the people were singin', they went Na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na-na The night they drove old Dixie down and all the bells were ringing The night they drove old Dixie down and the people were singin', they went Na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na-na Quote

dragster Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Cryin' in the chapel as sung by the King...... (words & music by arthur glenn) You saw me crying in the chapel. The tears I shed were tears of joy I know the meaning of contentment Now I am happy with the lord Just a plain and simple chapel Where humble people go to pray I pray the lord that Ill grow stronger As I live from day to day Ive searched and Ive searched But I couldnt find No way on earth To gain peace of mind Now Im happy in the chapel Where people are of one accord We gather in the chapel Just to sing and praise the lord Evry sinner looks for something That will put his heart at ease There is only one true answer He must get down on his knees Meet your neighbor in the chapel Join with him in tears of joy Youll know the meaning of contentment Then youll be happy with the lord Youll search and youll search But youll never find No way on earth To gain peace of mind Take your troubles to the chapel Get down on your knees and pray Your burdens will be lighter Quote
