LED ZEPPELIN Denies 2008 Tour Rumor - Nov. 23, 2007

MonstersAndCritics.com reports that LED ZEPPELIN have denied they are planning a world tour in 2008.

The legendary rockers claim "no decision has been made" as to whether they will follow up their comeback concert at London's O2 arena on December 10 with a globetrotting series of shows.

Excitement over a possible LED ZEPPELIN tour peaked this week after Ian Astbury, lead singer of British band THE CULT, told fans at a show in Cincinnati: "We'll be back next year because we're opening for a band you might have heard of. The name starts with 'L' and has a 'Z' in it."

When asked by an excited member of the crowd if he meant LED ZEPPELIN, Astbury reportedly nodded his head and raised a celebratory arm in the air.

But an aide for ZEPPELIN insists: "No decision has been made beyond the band's performance at the O2 arena.

"Maybe Ian got mixed up and they're supporting LIMP BIZKIT!"

LED ZEPPELIN have been sending out mixed messages concerning future shows.

Lead singer Robert Plant has been quoted as saying "there'll be one show and that's it", whereas guitarist Jimmy Page insisted: "It's a bit selfish to do just one show. If that's it, we probably shouldn't have taken the genie out of the bottle."

The band — which also features bassist John Paul Jones — have reformed for a tribute concert for the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, who signed the group.

To be fair I don't think this is the band's doing.

It's the first time LZ have been active in the digital media age. Gossip can go around the world in a nanosecond these days. The tabloid press are also taking interest now that they've realise how many fans (and potential new readers) this arcane band still has. Zeppelin Week in British Tabloid newspaper the Daily Mirror would have been unheard of in the band's heyday.

The downside is that news gets distorted easily. Jimmy says they'll play a song they've never played live before and in the blink of an eye it's become a 'new' song. I think the concensus is that he was talking about For Your Life.

I wouldn't rule a tour out yet. But, if the O2 goes well and Plant can be persuaded that he doesn't want to be the man to break millions of hearts, I think we'll all be in luck.

I would prefer if they didn't go on tour..rather do a few shows in Europe and in the States. As said before, headlining a festival or two would be worth the demand and the wait.

If the question ever arises between Alison Krauss and Robert Plant I'm sure she will nudge him along towards agreeing to a tour. I get the feeling that he sort of respects her for her integrity, and she's got lots of that, but also that I think she would secretly like that too. I don't think she'll say it right out, but kind of discreetely. Was she not qouted like ten years ago that her dream fantasy was to sing with Robert Plant... or was that Nanci Griffith?

Cheers

Yes, but that could have been Nanci Griffith saying that.. if I could only find the quote.. Hmm..

The most I've ever read about Krauss' association with Plant is that her brother used to play her Zep records as a kid.

They said "no decision has been made", they didn't come out and say "No tour whatsoever", they are still on the fence, it could go either way.

^That's exactly what I was thinking. I'm sure that even if they had decided to tour they would have kept it under wraps until after the Dec. 10th show.

I imagine they're going to anounce it at the show right before the encore or something. Can you imagine the explosion of cheering from the crowd and the streets outside the Arena?!

All these rumours and such from the tabloids and press are so anti-climactic. Announcing themselves at their biggest reunion? Wow!

I love how they include Jonesy as if it's a side note.

Like they could have gotten by without keyboards and someone playing bass.

It's a joke - which dates back to the Page/Plant days, when - at some gig or awards ceremony or something - Robert was asked where Jones was, and he replied that he was parking the car. It also refers to Jones' phone number joke at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

First off anything beautiful in led zeppelin is jonesy. he rocks, the side note as if he is just joining led zeppelin is an insult. If the said they were going on tour they would be pestered night and day by every news outlet every newspaper every magazine on the planet earth. If they were smart they would keep their mouths shut.
