Led Zeppelin Tributes

Recommended Posts

I play bass and keyboards in a Led Zeppelin 'tribute band' (if you will) Called Winds Of Thor. Just wondered what the opinions are about most tribute bands, and perhaps about my particular band. I'm nervous asking dedicated Zeppelin fans, on an official Led Zeppelin forum no less, but where else can you find the best critics. The clips I have are relatively old, but I would love some feedback. Honest and constructive please.

I'd pay to see ya...

You guys ever going to be in Louisiana?

I've never seen a LZ tribute band live, seen more than a few vids and heard sound clips of different ones though...other than not trying to copy the look, not bad.

Thanks. We are starting to get out of town this year. We just got the new singer back when those video clips were taken. We will probably get to Louisiana eventually. The reason we don't dress like the band is, quite frankly, we would look rediculous. I always felt it was about the music, not the gimic. I've searched and searched through other zeppelin tributes and I found a group of exceptional musician. They play a casino in Vegas. They cover alot of different acts. They call themselves rockshow i think. They are fantastic. You should check them out on youtube. They are probably the best out there, next to Zeppelin themselves.

I didn't mean anything negative concerning you guys not looking like Zeppelin...btw...I'm with you on the music is way more important than the look...

As far as the music goes...you guys sound as good or better than most of the ones I see out in cyberland...

We have the group Zoso come into town a good bit,two or three times a year....but I've only seen them on clips too....they seem to only play here on Friday nights though...and I bowl on Fridays and couldn't make to see the whole thing.

So make sure you book Baton Rouge on a Thursday or Saturday night... ;)

I've often thought about forming a LZ tribute band over the years...

Jimmy was the reason I learned to play a guitar...

I have a similar build and look as Jimmy...

I can or used to play the rythm and riff parts to any major Zep tune....

I play When the Levee Breaks and In My Time of Dying...incl.solos

I can even "fake" the bow solo's...although since I don't have some "lackey" to clean that rosin off my guitar afterwards, breaking out the bow only happens when there are ladies to impress... :)

BUT what I can't do is the faster solos with my fingers....

I can play a few bits and pieces here and there on each...and I can pull off a couple of the easier ones....Moby Dick,What is and Should Never be,Tangerine....but my fingers aren't a "lead guitarist fingers"...too short and slow.

Wow you guys are awsome! Your version of No Quarter sends shivers down my spine! You guys really deserve to go far the music is spot on. Wish you guys all the best. If you guys ever get big enough to do a UK tour I'll be there!

Im thinking of putting a tribute band together, Jimmy's my reason to play guitar and it would be my dream job - getting paid to play Zeppelin music!

Keep doing it! Keep the music alive for as long as possible!

You provide a service for all aspiring zep musicians. It's much easier to attend a show with a tribute band playing, to see how chords and scales are incorporated into the arrangement of a song, than it would be to see Page doing it....of course now we have You Tube! But nothing beats live music.

I hope all of you are extremely successful in reproducing zeps music. I personaly was told by RP to not mess with the music what so ever....so I guess I'm going to have to support your efforts!
