Mattmc1973 Posted February 17, 2008 Share Posted February 17, 2008 It's a 1959 Telecaster. It was given to him as a gift by Jeff Beck. Jimmy gave it that psychedelic paint job, as was common in those days. He used it in the Yardbirds, and in 1968/9 in Zep (on first album, and early tours before switching to Les Paul later in '69). He pulled it out again during the recording of LZ IV to record the Stairway To Heaven solo. He says that a roadie/tech later was doing a repair, and gave it a bad paintjob, and Jimmy was horrified. It was later painted "Botswana Brown" and fitted with a B-bender. I assume Jimmy still has the guitar, but it no longer has that cool paintjob... Do you know if he ever used it on stage after the incident? Nevermind, I just did a quick google search. apparently he has. ...unless it's a different one.
