Keith Richards "Slated" the Led Zeppelin Reunion

I'm doubting any member of LZ or the RS are losing sleep on this issue, and was probaby forgotten about as soon as it passed their lips.

I find it amusing that there is so much discussion about this.

Amusing-yes. Surprised that this discussion is 5 pages long and counting because Keith expresses his opinion in an article which equals squat because it's only his opinion......no. :D

"Keith Richards has basically never liked any rock bands, so this is nothing new."

I was reading a back copy of a 'rock' magazine recently and I came across a sort of 'how to buy/what's the best stuff?' guide to AC/DC. The piece was prefaced with a couple of very complimentary quotes from Keef himself. It left me in no doubt at all that he was-and maybe still is-a big fan of theirs. Casts a big question mark on his taste for me,personally, but that's just me.He's always struck me as a reactionary-purist,somewhat similar to Eric Clapton.

I'm not surprised, the stones and ac/dc specialise in sing-along rock songs, perfect for a tuesday night at Karaoke

Personally, I don't believe the much-touted 'jealousy' explanation even comes into it. Keith is easily as wealthy as Jimmy, Robert or JPJ, probably even more so. The Stones have their own massive fanbase and like Zep, have made their fair share of classic albums (though arguably not in the last 30 years). He never said that he dislikes the Zep guys as people, just that Stairway to Heaven isn't his cup of tea, which is an opinion he's perfectly entitled to hold.

His implied summary (and dismissal) of Zep's catalogue in terms of Stairway was the only vaguely irksome thing he said, IMO.

Why would anyone cut down the greatest song ever created by humans? Stairway to Heaven is the masterpiece of all masterpieces. Shit your mouth Keith. Jagger is the only one that sells the tickets. You and Woods are along for the ride.

I doubt anyone here would dispute that Stairway is a great song, but it doesn't change the fact that Keith Richards is still entitled to his opinion. No-one's obliged to agree with him.

Well, I love the Stones, and the Who and Led Zeppelin, and was lucky enough to see them all last year. Keith's entitled to his opinion, of course, but I would really like to hear what was coming through his amp without the other 11 people on stage covering up for him.

I've been to quite a few Stones gigs where Keef carried the whole show...but his playing at the O2 left much to be desired. On all three nights. I can't help but think the 'falling out of a coconut tree' incident was a lot more serious than the Stones media machine wants to let on.

So I guess Robert is a jerk too when he slags other bands, right? I mean let's be fair.....

Robert can be a pompous jerk, that's for sure. I don't like the jabs he's taken at Jonesy in the past. Then again, Jonesey's nailed him back a few times, once saying, "Robert was always into that fairy stuff..."

Classic Jonesy... :)

Now there's no reason to shit on Keith. And all that "snorting ashes" was a JOKE.

If not for Keef, the Stones would have been shit, pure and simple. Don't believe me? Go get a Jagger solo CD. Sure, he may say something that irritates us. But we've ALL said something that would piss him off, like all those "150 years old" jokes. So let it pass. ;)

I have got to agree with this, he is Keef after all. Just listen to Monkey Man. He got caught at a weak moment and slagged Zep, so what. He knows what a powerhouse Zep is. What exactly did he say anyway? I have seen them twice in the 90's and he was awesome. I think I will let him slide on this one. BFD. Right?

Keef is nothing but a couple of broomsticks bound together by scotch tape. He's the living embodiement of the Crypt Keeper..

Mick Taylor was clearly the best guitarist to ever play in the Stones.

If I hear that crappy "Start Me Up" again, I think I'll hurl....

You got to admit, "Start me up" is a great song to get in the mood to. I joke about that with my girl every time we hear the song.

Here's the deal with The Rolling Stones: They are, or at least used to be the best at laying down a groove and staying with it. Guitar players are usually naturally better at either lead or rhythm, they are seldom equal at both. Keith is a natural rhythm player. And that's fine---they might as well do what they do best.

I just find L.Z.'s music more multi--faceted and challenging. It's just irritating to me that outside of this forum, the vast majority of people in the universe would be shocked to hear that L.Z. has sold twice as many records as the Stones. I remember reading something J.P.J. said in the seventies: "We're the biggest and the best and nobody knows it."

Yep. I think a lot of people would still be suprised to hear the variety of stuff they've done. You could find something for just about anybody, in Zepp's catalog.

There's nothing like a good argument between Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones.

:D Seriously.

Ol' Keith's played a lot of gigs over the years. He was being sarcastic with "oh did they play a show" (like he just now heard of it). It's amusing of him to "congratulate" Zeppelin for managing to play one show... of course, being Zeppelin, their one gig is the musical and media equivalent of any number of Stones' shows. :P

It's just his usual flippant attitude; I don't take it seriously. This is what happens when you get too many proud stallions parked in the corral inbetween tours. I just pet the horse and humor him; give him an apple and a sugar cube and he'll be fine.
