I could have tried holding off until they get up to 50 or 60% off but I would imagine it'd be long gone by then.

I have taken advantage of their sale a couple of times in the past couple of weeks. I am going back today but like you said, not much will be there if it is up to half price. Now at least their prices on cd's are reasonable.

Agreed, given that the majority of their CDs are priced at around $18. There were a couple of John Lennon Anthology boxes in there but someone already snatched them up. It's funny, when the sale first started and prices were something like 20-30% off I overheard a conversation about a fight breaking out between a couple folks. That first day people were buying all kinds of stuff just because they had the word "sale" on the brain. The only things I got were a few magazines which were already up to 50% off.

My old CD of this got damaged beyond repair (never ever lend your music out to anyone, especially your idiot brother in law).............so I bought the deluxe version via Amazon.

LOVE this record. Definitely a mainstay on my top ten favorites of all time. Ryan is now out on a solo acoustic tour that will hopefully bring him back to his homestate of North Carolina some time in the new year. I'm not holding my breath though as he seems to have a love/hate relationship with NC, he's only played here twice since 2000. The last time he was here (2005) he put Whiskeytown back together for a one-off at Slim's in Raleigh. Hopefully he'll do the same thing again if he sees fit to play on his hometurf in 2012.

That was one of the great things about 1990's music, the "alt.country" thing. I loved this album as well and am enjoying the deluxe version even more. It's a pity Whiskeytown blew itself up though. Adams is a huge talent but really, that band was just terrific.

So were Uncle Tupelo, Wilco and The Jayhawks among others.............but maybe that's subject for another thread.

More finds from Borders' going out of business sale. I'm sure there's probably better Thin Lizzy compilations out there than this one from the Icon series but considering I have no Thin Lizzy and this was around $3 it was kinda hard to pass up.

^Great purchases! I'm a big fan of Zero 7 :) If you like the Cure and don't already have it, I think their best album is Pornography.

Thanks for the tip ninelives! The Cure has released 15 (!) records over their career and it was hard to choose, especially being unfamiliar with their work outside of You/tube clips. I read that Robert Smith said that Bloodflowers was the third in a trilogy of his/their 2 earlier albums, Disintegration, and Pornography.

I really, really like the moody guitar vibe of Bloodflowers and the lyrical content as well. So I do believe I will be getting Disintegration and Pornography next.

And you know his voice still sounds great even in the 2008 clips I listened too. I never thought I'd like any other Robert besides Mr. Plant, but Robert Smith can sing to me anytime! :)........missy

Disintegration is another one that I'd recommend! I prefer them because they're very dark and less commercial sounding IMO. But the ones you got are great too! Enjoy - great era of music :)

Interesting backstory to this Scottish band, who were active from ’69 to ’74, but never had an album to their name till the Rockadrome label put together a career-spanning comp some 35 years later. The underground buzz from said record prompted a reunion, with the three original musicians enlisting a new singer and recording this, their second official release. Many of the tunes on here date back to the band’s early 70’s heyday, albeit with a warm, modern touch on this superb-sounding recording.

Second track “Saga” is reminiscent of The Obsessed, while “The Traveler” reminds me of Rainbow, or even Mob Rules, while the title track is a little like “Children of the Sea.” Singer Gordon Brown (presumably not the embattled ex-prime minister) doesn’t sound exactly like Dio, but there’s something about his inflection, in combination with the vintage heavy rock riffage that has me thinking early 80’s Sabbath.

From there, the album takes a bluesy turn with tunes like “Angel Woman” and “Southern Skies” then strides into power ballad territory with “It’s Easy” and later “Closing In.” “Love is Blind” plays off the loud/soft dynamic, with some heavy blues riffs and mellow Bostonesque interludes giving way to a crushingly heavy chorus—and one helluva outro solo

section!

This is a solid, dynamic, vintage rock ‘n roll record, 13 tracks spanning 57 minutes yet hardly a dull moment to be found. A Different Game is more of the same—high quality heavy rock unearthed from the underground by Ripple Music!
