From the L. A. Times

1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County ( L. A. County has 10.2 million people)are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.

3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.

4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegl alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal , whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally

6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.

10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish.

(There are 10.2 million people in L. A. County. )

(All 10 of the above are from the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops, but 29% are on welfare. Over 70% of the United States' annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida , and New York) results from immigration. 29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

I wonder if Obama..or anyone will ever do anything... <_<

Some parts of this country have been more Mexican/Spanish than "American". I mean, the Southwest, Texas, California, Florida....all Spanish/Mexican possessions before we annexed them.

We definitely need to do something about illegal immigration, but some of these are knee-jerk reactions.

One thing about the State of Texas..... Mexico owned the territory until 1836 when Texas won its independence becoming an independent Republic. In 1845 it joined the United States as the 28th state.

But, your point about the Spanish and native peoples being here first is well taken.

To be fair, it may have been the Spanish/Mexicans before us, but before them it belonged to Native Americans. We simply robbed the robbers. Not saying what we did was right, but hey, we were only playing the game

Which is why when I hear people say "We need to save America for the Americans", I wonder just what in the hell they're talking about. This country doesn't belong to us anymore than it belongs to anyone else. As you said, the lands that encompass this country have passed through many hands.

Here's a thought/prediction for 2012: George Bush Senior was on the Sunday news program 1/4/09 and stated that he felt Jeb would make an a terrific senator and president. This statement was taken from "Politico" website. Even though Jeb had not decided yet, I am confident that he may run for the FL senate seat. One thing Americans have is a short term memory - many may vote for Bush since he was governor of FL and Americans will forget about his brother's presidency. It will be interesting to see if Jeb actually does run for the FL senate seat since Senator Martinez will not run for re-election.
