I said things like this before, most folks don't want change, they want the song to remain the same,...

I couldn't disagree more. People are WAY upset with the Bush administration - we're fighting two wars, one of which was not at all necessary, and it only distracted us from the war we should be fighting. Our economy is deep in the shits because of that. It's not going to get any better until things change. Who honestly wants to keep running the same course?

To me, it depends how far the spying goes...for example, if they spy on me and I start bitching about how rotten this country has become I don't want them to bomb me with made-up charges or something. But if it's stopping threats against the American public then I'm for it.

Moderation in all things B)

He who would sacrifice liberty for safety deserves neither.

~ Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin

How many civil liberties did Americans give up in the winning of the Cold War?

Were we under any less of a threat then?.. when nuclear warheads were aimed at us?

:whistling:

The point being.. increased vigilance against terrorism needn't require that we

sacrifice our civil liberties or abandon our fundamental democratic principles.

I fully agree

I thought your position was that waterboarding wasn't torture. What made you change your mind? Do you now oppose Bush's policy of condoning CIA use of so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques"?

Anyway.. if you're now against waterboarding,.. good for you!

It's been a while since we chit-chatted like this Hermit, but hey for old times sake, I'm willing :D

Yeah, it has been awhile, huh?

Fwiw,. I've always appreciated your 'willingness'" to subject

yourself to.. well.. being schooled. That's real big of you, bro.

:D

I'm not really the right-wing flag-waving kid anymore.

Hallelujah to that!

This country needs change, no doubt (third parties, hint hint). That being said, WBD 2012 B)

There are no viable third parties in America. However,..

If you move toward the labor end of the political spectrum..

and adopt a position opposing trickle down economics..

and pledge yourself to the preservation of civil liberties..

and oppose unilateral preemptive invasions..

You just might just make a viable candidate.

..some day. ;)

McCain..

supports Bush's economic policies.

supports Bush's Iraq and Iran policies.

supports Bush's domestic spying policies.

supports Bush's anti-public education policies.

supports Bush's (proposed) privatization of Social Security policy.

supports Bush's (proposed) privatization of health care policy.

supports Bush's stem cell research policy.

supports Bush's 'abstinence only' anti-sex education policy position.

supports Bush's policy opposing a ban on assault rifles.

supports Bush's saber-rattling in lieu of diplomacy policies.

supports Bush's preemptive unilateral invasion policy.

the list goes on and on.

Mr Franklin,who fought the British,in a stand-up battle,could he ever have envisioned this?Today?Thoughts?

Let me answer Ben:we will get neither, because liberty does not protect safety.Does it?

True,so what the heck is the solution?Human beings,last time I check,....over react,to everything.

There's simply no depth of classlessness that Fox "News" won't stoop to. <_<

..and your classy swipes at republicans are better? I smell boo hoo and BS!

Come on Hermit ....you're being a little one-sided aren't you? Liberal media picked on the daughters of Bush and Cheney and you lauded them, but this is classless and uncalled for?

PULLLL-LEASE!!!

Hi Hermit,you 'hippie' freak,...kidding,lad,....

Hi KB, you.. (unqualified) freak.

:P

:D

j/k. ;)

Name the four people who have been waterboarded,....name them.

The number of people.. that we know of.. that waterboarding/torture

has been used on.. and who they are.. is utterly irrelevant, me-laddo.

Would you like to make a case for why it is relevant? :whistling:

Well.. "classy" would be better than "classless",.. wouldn't it? B)

Seriously though..

I realize you don't agree with my political pov and you're sensitive to my political jabs,

but can you cite any 'swipes at republicans' I've made that have been "classless"?

I'm not saying that we take down habeas corpus or something. Simply, that if the government wishes to scan cell phone calls of suspected terrorists why should we stop them if no innocents are being rounded up and thrown in jail or something? How many innocents are really affected by this?

I thought your position was that waterboarding wasn't torture. What made you change your mind? Do you now oppose Bush's policy of condoning CIA use of so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques"?

Maybe it's just my memory but I don't really remember joining in on any of the waterboarding talk over the years?

In any case, I'm against it. Torture simply makes us as bad as them

There are no third parties making news, but there are a few decent ones out there

If you move toward the labor end of the political spectrum..

No...

and adopt a position opposing trickle down economics..
No, because we'd simply go further in this country and probably go socialist

and pledge yourself to the preservation of civil liberties..

Thats fine

and oppose unilateral preemptive invasions..

Agreed

How about this? I push forward the ideals of pure moral capitalism (not gonna happen but we can try), push for stronger education system, putting more focus on finance and money rather than English grammar, allowing more freedom (personal, financial, or otherwise) so you can do what you'd like so long as it doesn't infringe on others' rights and call it a day?

Yay me

A guy had this on during work today

and just found out about this little monkey. Just bought one.

I do believe this is both racist and is protected by the first amendment. As my foreman told me, if they can burn a flag, i could burn a cross.

Taking it a little far there PB

 Cripes, every once in awhile I get a rude awakening re: the 1950's mentality that is alive and well in parts of our country. I only laugh because it's better than puking.

You "do believe it's racist", and.. you bought one anyway?

And you proudly assert your right to.. burn crosses?

If you believe I'm a racist, thats fine.

If anyone had any doubts, your monkey/cross burning

post has probably pretty well eliminated those doubts.

Welcome to 1955, Hermit. Since I need to feel superior and have no actual qualities that make me so, I can always count on the whiteness of my skin. Therefore, I need to be highly invested in racism, or I will lose my superiority (which I never had to begin with). Where the hell have you been?

My thoughts about Obama, (if anyone cares)

I think he can win this election.

If he does it won't be the end of the world.

I don't think he's a "new kind of politician" or any of that crap.

I don't think he's a Muslim. I wouldn't care if he was by the way. It's a non issue w/ me.

I don't think he shares rev wrights views. I'm not so sure about his wife.

I don't think he has enough experience to be President.

I doubt that he's "the most liberal senator", the website that people quote when they say that said the same thing last time around about kerry. I doubt that's a coincidence. (I haven't looked into it though)

Well, I'm interested. I hope you didn't think I was referring to you with my previous post. People should vote their conscience.

Nah, I was just thinking to myself people probably think I hate Obama or something. I don't have anything personally against him, like I did w/ kerry, I just don't think these guys are the best we can do.

The liberal senator tag is based on voting records. He has voted along party lines, than any other democrate. I think it's a great counter attack by the G.O.P., when the dems say that McCain has voted along with Bush a bunch of times. something around 90%. But thats how obama gained party favor by bieng the party guy. When Moveon.org and goerge soros both would personlay wipe obamas ass when he takes a shit. the liberal tag is pretty spot on.
