Stone Temple Pilots Reunite for Tour

LOS ANGELES (AP) — After a five-year breakup and nearly eight-year absence from the concert scene, Stone Temple Pilots will reunite for a North American tour.

On Monday, Singer Scott Weiland, guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz revealed the details of their 65-city tour, set to begin May 17 in Columbus, Ohio.

"The story's not finished," Weiland told The Associated Press. "There's more to be revealed and more to be told."

DeLeo said the band plans to record a new album after the tour, which is set to wrap in November.

Formed in 1992, the band has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide.

The Grammy-winning rockers celebrated their announcement with a private show in the Hollywood Hills.

They're scheduled to make their first national television appearance May 1 on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

Glad there is more to be announced, from the areas I know best, this is very odd....in Texas, Grand Prairie and The Woodlands, but no Dallas, Houston, or Austin? Lame.

And no NYC yet.

Grand Prairie is essentially Dallas and The Woodlands is near Houston, so they're covered. Austin seems to be overlooked this time. And you can't forget San Antonio, but don't ever worry about El Paso. Only assholes are there.

El Paso has its good side but you have to use a little caution there; it's a border town of urban proportions, just on the other side of Ciudad Juarez.

Crime

In January 2004, police unearthed a grave containing 12 bodies in a Ciudad Juarez backyard.

Over the past 10 years Juárez has seen almost 400 women fall victims to sexual homicides, their bodies often dumped in ditches or vacant lots. Despite pressure to catch the killers and a roundup of some suspects, few believe the true culprits have been found. A controversial new book implicates high-level police and prominent Juárez citizens in the crimes. But the families of some of the victims believe the murderers will never be brought to justice.

“The best information we have is that these men are committing crimes simply for the sport of it. The authorities know who the killers are, and nothing's being done about it.” (Diana Washington Valdez.)

Mexican investigators found 19 more bodies buried in the backyard of a house in Ciudad Juarez, increasing the tally of corpses found there to 36, officials said March 15, 2008. Federal agents began digging in the yard on March 1, 2008, initially finding six dismembered bodies. Ciudad Juárez has been plagued by violence as Mexico's crackdown on powerful drug cartels stokes turf wars among traffickers who have been linked to hundreds of killings in the years 2006 and 2007.

Stone Temple Pilots Hope To Hit Studio Post-Tour

Stone Temple Pilots

Gary Graff, Detroit

Some new Stone Temple Pilots music may be in the offing, but it's not likely to surface until after the reunited rockers finish touring later this year.

"I think new material will come probably after this tour," bassist Robert DeLeo tells Billboard.com. "I think the whole thing now is kind of getting back and re-acclimating ourselves to the songs that we know. I think that's gonna make for a better atmosphere and better performances ... instead of doing a new record.

"Then, after this tour finishes, I think we're gonna be in a position where we've gotten to know each other again, and I think it's gonna be time to hit the studio."

Weiland Recording Solo CD With Steve Albini

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland is recording his second solo album with famed indie rock producer Steve Albini and plans to release it in November.

Ex-Velvet Revolver vocalist Weiland broke the news earlier this week on "The Howard Stern Show," during which No Doubt drummer Adrian Young called in to reveal he is also participating on the project.

According to Weiland's publicist, the as-yet-untitled solo set will be released on Weiland's Soft Drive label, with distribution through RED/Sony. It is unknown if Weiland's previously recorded collaboration with producer Pharrell Williams, "Happy," will appear on the album.

Weiland's solo debut, "12 Bar Blues," was released in 1998. "My music is a little bit different, obviously, than Velvet Revolver music," Weiland told Billboard in late 2006, when he proclaimed the solo album to be "three-quarters done." "It's a little bit more on the esoteric side."

As previously reported, Stone Temple Pilots will embark on an extensive reunion tour May 17 at Columbus, Ohio,'s Rock on the Range festival, and have tentative plans to hit the studio later this year.

They mentioned that  last week on the Howard Stern Show when Howard interviewed one of the guys in the band

Who did Howard interview?  Phone call or in the studio?  He has always had close ties to the band since the mid 90's.
