The Next Step-Speculation

Outrider

Recommended Posts

I didn't bother going around to see if anyone had mentioned this themselves yet but I think this is the most current event we can discuss.

As you all know the clock is ticking and any possibility of a full scale Zeppelin reunion. As excited as I would be at the prospect of a Zeppelin tour, the possibility of new material is even more intruiging to me. Sure Zep is the greatest live band to ever turn the amps to 11 but the basis of their longevity and foundation of their live acts was the music itself. In short, a new album would provide something that would all the 'shadow to be taller than the soul' once again. More lasting quality.

It's for ths reason and from just a few personal speculative ramblings that I wonder if the next material from any of the Zeppelin members will be a collaboration but not a full scale one. Plant is very much enjoying his life with Allison Kraus. At his age it would seem rejuvination is more important than anything and this project has done just that for him. Ironically it's really Page and Jones that seem more interested in actually moving forward.

Although Plant is a truly inspiring singer, it can often be easier for fellow musicians (instrumentally speaking) to inspire eachother rather than be inspired by their voice. Given recent comments in UNCUT I'm beginning to wonder if it will be John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page who make new music together with the absence of Plant. First let's look at some comments.....

Robert Plant-"We did what we set out to do and more, in every respect. We showed people that LED ZEPPELIN did go on a bit. And hopefully, one day we could do it again for another really, really good reason." Plant is basically saying his interaction with Zeppelin (in the near future) will be on a special basis only. With Page now approaching 65 and Jones not far behind, the prospect grows dimmer each day. If it isn't going to happen in the near future, it isn't happening at all. This is why I think Page and Jones may say "We can't wait all day"

Jimmy Page-"'The focus was on the O2 show. That's what I had my focus on. As for Robert, he had a parallel project (with Alison Krauss) and it's been successful, which I suppose means he doesn't have time for ZEPPELIN at this moment. What I do know — is at the rehearsals, and the O2 gig, we were really inspiring. Okay? That's all I'll say.'"

Page is telling us (I think) in code, that musically it was a epiphany for him, but Plant isn't interested right now.

John Paul Jones has said that he, like Page and Bonham, would like the band to hit the road, reflected on the reunion gig, saying, "It felt like the first night of a tour. You think, 'Oh, I could do that bit better, or change something in that song.' And we didn't get a chance to do any more."

When pressed about the prospects of a ZEPPELIN reunion album, Jones said, "I'm not too certain about anything at the moment. I've got no idea what's going to happen, but I'd certainly like to play with Jimmy again"

There you go, Jones and Page have now told us that Plant is too busy, but they are very inspired and want to continue to play together. To me, the writing is on the wall.

True, I probably should include "whistful thinking" with the last line but who knows. I think we only have 2-3 more years with Page being able to do a tour. Although he's as healthy as ever, it's only a matter of time before those past demons catchup with his health.

Big deal. Dio has played a few isolated solo dates even though he's recording an album with Sabbath. That kind of thing happens. If Robert announces he's going back into the studio with T-Bone or Strange Sensaton, then you can put the nails in the coffin.

This is pure torture!! I wish the three would get together and have a press conference and put all this speculation to rest. They must know what it is doing to us. I truely believe I will see them together before I die. So I either see them or I live forever. I dont want to live forever!!

I love it when people start a thread with " I didn't bother to read anything else because my thoughts are so much more interesting"

So I didn't bother to read this thread. B)

And I love it when people twist words to open the segway for their own feeble a-hole responses. There was no intention to say that I found anyone elses thoughts less interesting, if I had found that the case then why post my own in a forum to be discussed? The point was that I didn't feel like sifting through messages to see if anyone had previously mentioned this but I was interested in hearing some opinions on the matter. I had an opinion and posted it. Please feel free to allow the sun to shine out of your a$$ some more so the rest of us can grow some vegetation.

Thanks, I will. :D

If you "bothered " to read this, that is. :D

Interesting that you've taken that line so personally. You certainly aren't giving me much reason to think it would have been worth searching at this point. Perhaps you have three good weeks per month to post. Feel free to come along and respond when dry-time has arrived.

Listen mate, cool down. I personally think anyone who starts a thread by telling us all that they can't be bothered to look through our posts but wants to talk about something etc etc deserves a little gentle humour directed at them.

Don't take it too personally.

Oh, and there is a search function here, but you wouldn't have needed it - a couple of threads on this subject were already at the top of the lists in the various forums.

Anyway - I'm very excited about the whole idea, since you asked. I would LOVE to hear new stuff from Jimmy in any context. B)

Perhaps one should consider the context before providing their own. Some of us don't spend heavy amounts of time scouring the messageboard here. The initial line was written in anticipation that someone might say "that was already discussed in the 'enter subject here' forum. I read the article, thought that certain comments indicated that Page and Jones may be prepared to make a go of it on their own and posted an article for folks to discuss. How silly does it seem that this needs to be explained? In the lovely world that is the internet, posted comments can be taken in various ways on a constant basis. Perhaps rather than searching for the most offensive meaning posible, one should consider the body of content instead?

You're right.

And perhaps you should consider finding a sense of humour too.

Then we'll all be happy.

Ahhhhhh so it was all in 'jest'. I have my doubts but we've beat this horse to death....as well as diluted the subject. 5-10 minutes neither of us will ever get back. (play taps)

Guided by the one who watches over the spirit of John Bonham, I would think. But we are approaching May, 2008. May, 1969 has passed, and some venues of the past have quieted to make way for the new. What is this writing of which you speak?

If they did that every time there was a reunion tour rumour they would have had hundreds of press conferences over the last few years. Plus, if nothing is really decided yet either way, there is no news to tell the press is there?

If you don't have the time to read the other threads here, why should be bother to take the time to read yours? People get frustrated by multiple posts around here, because a lot of time and effort goes into discussing these topics in single threads. When someone else comes along and just starts their own, even though the topic has just been done to death somewhere else, people get annoyed.

There are a lot of people on here with a lot of knowledge about the band and you would be well served to see what they have to say...

I totally agree about the tour time, but since Jimmy's a vegan, that might give him another 10 years on the human time scale. Not that being a vegan erases the dope that's still flowing through his organs 30 years +, but it helps in other ways. And good for you for defending yourself in YOUR forum topic. No explanation needed here, either. :)

Then I would suggest those 'people' need to find more creative things to do with their time if they allow themselves to become offended by multiple posts or expect us all to sift through hundreds of posts for 'their' convenience.. I doubt that particular subject had been touched on too much since the interview was just released. As for being 'well served' to see what they say, I didn't come here for a Led Zeppelin education. I can assure you I know more than the 'average bear' and do not find the need (nor time) to run through countless posts to find a particular subject. I do, on occasion read some posts on here and a most of them are quite thoughtful. Most of you are taking that opening line completely out of context.

Thank you, and a good point. I just hope that Pagey's heart holds out. So many guys that have taken care of themselves over the later years still end up having issues down the road. Still, to ask anyone to tour near the age of 70 is difficult, especially when playing high energy music like Zep. Those Les Pauls are rather heavy and Page has had back and knee issues. We'll just have to cross our fingers.

Jimmy's a vegan? He doesn't look sickly and too-skinny to me. Then again, if he only became a vegan recently, that would make sense.

And I hope he's spending the few hundred needed on all those supplements he's gonna have to take (no eggs or milk... well, there goes your calcium and your iron... that's two supplements... but there's more... lots more). Not that a few hundred to him is expensive, but still...
