Reunited JANE'S ADDICTION To Perform At First-Ever U.S. NME AWARDS

After much speculation in the previous week, Eric Avery has agreed to join former band mates JANE'S ADDICTION for a one-night-only performance at the first-ever U.S. NME Awards. The iconic foursome will be crowned with the Godlike Genius Award during the ceremony and performance, to take place at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on April 23. JANE'S ADDICTION is joining the likes of THE CLASH, NEW ORDER, PRIMAL SCREAM and MANIC STREET PREACHERS, who are among the acts to have picked up the Godlike Genius prize at the UK awards.

Avery has continually declined offers to reunite with the band and instead focused on his musical endeavors, most recently, a debut solo LP, "Help Wanted", released last week on Dangerbird Records. "I've chosen to reject the prospects of reuniting in the past for personal and philosophical reasons. I have always considered reunions to be a way to make a quick buck, and it sells short my own experience of it the first time around," Eric Avery attests. He adds, "The reason I started to even consider this is because it's honoring the past instead of trying to recreate it."

NME will bestow this award upon JANE'S ADDICTION because, as they state, "[they've] done more than any other band to introduce American alternative music to the mainstream, founding the touring Lollapalooza festival and giving what frontman Perry Farrell refers to as the 'alternative nation' a real cultural focus and voice."

What a sad day.

I hope they don`t play "Been Caugt Stealing Again" because that dog barking is about the corniest thing I ever heard.

But I can tolerate "Great Pets".

that's a pretty lame excuse to make such a stupid comment.

The dog barking is corny?

And "Pets" was not Jane's Addiction. It was Porno for Pyros.

yes, this is news I've been waiting to hear for quite some time now..........17 years to be exact. Much like the Zeppelin deal, I fear nothing will come of it that i can personally witness.......but the fact the 4 of them are going to be playing some tunes together...........and that the box set is supposedly still inn the works for fall of 2008 are encouraging to me.

Janes was the only band that surpassed my Zeppelin obsession........., the original release (XXX, Janes addiction, whatever you want to call it), Nothing's shocking and Ritual are 3 superb pieces of musical art.......their subsequent reunions did do some damage to their legacy (particularly 2003)....but that being said, now that Eric is in the fold..well again, I refuse to get my hopes up

(and Rockaction....dude, I'm surprised at you.............you usually have real good taste in music as far as I see........giving a zzzzzzz to Janes'?? :o .......give any of the above listed a listen)............but i will say, Janes', like any good music, is not for everyone

That looks like good news to me. Is it the original line-up ,then, or did someone die or swear to have nothing more to do with 'evil' rock music etc ? For the naysayers here...no they aren't as good as Zeppelin but that always seems a bit of a narrow and maybe joyless way of assessing bands. In particular,I'd say 'Ritual de lo Habitual' is a fine piece of work. If it has obvious faults, those faults are actually quite unusual[and,in a weird way, refreshing] for the time. Maybe it suffers from a surfeit of ambition and possibly one jerky-funkoid workout too many. Maybe. The key is they sound like a band, not just a singer and his backing group, the influences are well assimillated and they're a million miles away from the dominant grunge/alt rock/heavy/thrash flavours of the time.Unfortunately, their fragility, both in physical terms and whether they would just simply stick together for a long career was always pretty obvious[sorry for that]. They seemed to be over too soon for me and the only reunion I'd be interested in would be the original 4. Good band.Cheers for the info

NOTHING matches Zep....let alone JA!! :)

Yeah you're right. In their prime, JA didn't match Zep, they exceeded Zep in every aspect.

Anyway, this is beyond great news, but it's most likely a one shot deal and admission is invite only. It would be nice if he would do a quick tour with them. I'd sell everything i own to see the original line up.

biggest problem with Jane's was, as soon as they hit their "prime" they were done. I think that's why there are still many fans like me out there who just caught them in 90-91, were blown away completelty, only to hear shortly thereafter they were breaking up?...........

it's like the George Costanza leave the room on a high note.......with the audience begging for more........showmanship.....although I know the band didn't plan it that way..........drugs & egos

recently saw an interview with Perkins where he said he wished they had a manger back then that just would have told them to take a year or 2 off instead of breaking up

Uh...I wouldn't go that far....they were incredible but not a top five band ever like Zep...still, some of the best concerts I have ever seen where the original JA!!
