Where did that name come from? Is it named after the Revolutionary War Hero? Did the Led Zeppelin Bassist have ties to Charlottesville?
Electrophile
It's none of those things, a simple Googling would have answered the question. John Paul Jones Arena is named in honor of the father of Paul Tudor Jones, a commodity trader and Virginia alumnus who donated $35 million for the construction of the arena. Paul Tudor Jones earned a B.A. in Economics from the University in 1976. His father, John Paul "Jack" Jones, is a 1948 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law.
