Getting You Ready for the Robert Plant & Alison Krauss Show

Submitted by Collins Parker

It's not often that Chattanooga hosts an early show from a hot tour.

But the city has responded by selling it out months ago.

The Alison Krauss- Robert Plant tour is making some strange stops. It begins in traditional Alison territories like Chattanooga, Louisville and Asheville. But then it hops over to Europe to hit London and Paris and other stops. They'll play big time U.S. festivals like JazzFest and Bonarro. And they've added larger cities now, including both Atlanta and Nashville.

But this whole pairing of the old rocker and young bluegrass/country singer has been a surprising success.

The album "Raising Sand" started slow last fall but turned into a hit.

Along with Producer T-Bone Burnett, Plant and Krauss have created their own musical world of old time rock and Americana music, which is a stretch for both artists.

But now they're hitting the road.

And a lot of old Led Zepplin fans are going to be there, wanting to hear the old stuff.

Here is what I'm afraid of.

Please, don't mix the pure innocence of this voice.

with this.

Yes, in the first show Sunday in Louisville, they did perform Black Dog... accompanied by banjo of all things.

I'm cringing at the possibilities.

Looking down the set list posted in a review at the Tennessean, I see five Zep songs.

The other four are more appropriate (Black Country Woman, Hey, Hey What Can I Do, When the Levee Breaks, & the Battle of Evermore).

The review of the first show is a rave... saying both singers have expanded their range.

Plant has learned subtlety and harmony while Krauss has loosened up and released her inner rocker.

I'd love to see some of it on You Tube, but no luck so far.

Maybe someone will post something from the Chattanooga show on Wednesay.

And Alison... please, please, please.. don't let him talk you into doing Stairway to Heaven or the Lemon Song.
