DRUNK
sorry...are you serious?... Iraq Television Viewership Poll Department of State, Office Intelligence and Research October 16, 2003 M-146-03 TV Is a Crucial Information Source for Iraqis Conducted and prepared by the State Department Office of Research Local TV-Access Is More Widespread; A Third Have Access to a Home Satellite Nearly all (93%) Iraqis report owning a television, and about a third (33%) have access to a satellite dish either at home, a friend’s residence, or at work (See figure, next page)1; two-thirds (62%) report that they have no satellite access at all. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Results are based on face-to-face interviews conducted during August 25-September 5, 2003, among 1,444 urban Iraqi adults (18 years-old and over) in seven cities, including Baghdad, Ramadi, Fallujah, Basrah, Najaf, Suleymania, and Erbil. Satellites More Widespread Among Better Educated, and in the North Satellite access is most prevalent among Iraqis with a secondary-level education or higher, in a likely reflecting a degree of affluence. Significantly, post-college graduates are three times more likely to have access to satellite television than those with a primary education or lower. Across Iraq, majorities in the northern cities of Erbil (73%) and Suleymania (60%) report access to satellite television, while half (55%) do in Ramadi. Only a third indicate access in Baghdad (32%) or Najaf (27%), and just 7 percent do in Basrah. Exactly, most Iraqi's are not watching TV. According to that report, only 33% of Iraqi's have access to satellite. We of course don't know how accurate that report is. The numbers might be inflated. Now let us go a little deeper. Having access to satellite TV, does not tell us what they are watching. Nor does it tell us how much time they spend watching the TV. The truth is, the man rules the house with an iron fist, and if those wives watch something western, and the husband finds outs..............well let's put it this way: the women and children aren't going to risk watching any western programming. But even though it might be possible to see the images, most Iraqi's do not understand the English language. In fact, a lot of the Iraqi's I encountered were completely illiterate. If Iraqi's are watching TV, it is some form of Arabic programming they are watching.

What the fuck does owning a satellite have to do with being able to watch t.v.? What are they watching, if they don't own a satellite? A blank screen? DRUNK
electricmage goes on the ignore list. I won't put up with your stupidity, or stalker behavior. but to answer your retarded reply, there is no cable service in Iraq. It is either satellite, or a blank screen. Never saw a VCR or DVD player in my time there either.

I think he's trying to highlight that illiteracy and lack of information from the outside world is fueling some of the problems there. That's fine. He's just presenting a point of view which is actually supported by the figures.

He gave us 33% of Iraqis may have the ability to watch tv. Whoop dee fuggin do. And the only reason he ignored me is because I pointed out how much of a hypocrite he is, how pathetically racist he is, and how xenophobic he is. Never even answered my last post to him. What a man. He thinks that because he's been there, he has all the knowledge one could possibly have on the subject. News for him, I have friends and cousins in the war, all right? They all disagree with him 100%. And my God, he said Hussein brought order...that he wasn't a bad guy. Clearly he doesn't know what he's talking about. He's become Nazi-like and fascist and he doesn't even see it. Yeah, great guy

Elvis I brought up one time, that the Middle East once led the world in philosophy, medicine, science, mathematics, etc. They were one of the most literate peoples of all time. DRUNK of course denied it (it's supported by the facts) and said that never happened... Anywho, I agree zepyep, what would happen if an overnight abandonment took place? I don't agree with us ever going there in the first place, but now that we're there and fucked everything up, we can't leave and let what happened to South Vietnam take place here... Goes completely outside the realm of logic and refuses to acknowledge he may be wrong. God help this sorry ass planet. I weep for the fucking future ...Cheers

Pb Derigable
I don't have comcast or cable. I'm able to watch t.v. and I'm able to get the information i need for my daily needs. But you do have Internet, which most people in Iraq don't and you have access to a cable provider and you can mount a dish on your roof right? Well people in Iraq don't and they also have less channels over the air also. and they don't have 5 daily newspapers to choose from. Having access to a satellite is different from owning one. so he was right. their main source of info is from satellite and not all of them have one, some say they have access to one, but thats not the same as owning one. If you also remeber, some usally only get power for three hours a day. and one more thing, yes the ones who have access to the internet, it's the internet, but they don;t have as many news sources in arabic as they do in american. im sure you can get yahoo in arabic, but i doubt they would go on a american site. wanna be drummer
When do you suggest this happened? All right, guess I'll touch up you're history for you...at 10:50 at night... I'll just give you a touch-up, since I really want to go to bed The Abbasid Empire: Could well be considered the Rome of the Islamic Empires. Far above Europe in terms of medicine and warfare, etc. Iit was behind only China perhaps in dominating the fields of science. It only fell apart when corruption and internal rot destroyed its foundations and the Mongol Hordes came and crushed them Ottoman Empire: Longest Lasting Empire of all time. At its peak, the Empire proved it was more than willing to take on any obstacle in front of it. Hell, it even conquered Constantinople, proving its superiority to the old European fighting ways. You could even argue that the Mughal Empire was an Islamic Empire and it ruled India, and was also quite advanced. Tell ya what. I'm gonna go to bed. If it suits you, go do some reading and compare Europe to the Middle East during the peak of the Ottomans and Abbasids and let me know what you find out It's an interesting read, I'll tell you that much

electricmage
Really ! We've been supporting Israel for how many years now? And has that stopped terrorists from firing rockets into the country daily? Our meddling in middle-eastern affairs will most likely not stop radical muslims from attempting to enter and reclaim the holy land.

Our meddling in middle-eastern affairs will most likely not stop radical muslims from attempting to enter and reclaim the holy land. No doubt they will continue to fire rockets and as you say attempt to reclaim the holy land. It's what may be on the end of those rockets that IMHO justify's Americas presence there. We know that in the long term, there has to be a different solution to the middle east problem. But untill that is achievable, the military option must continue. With Iran in the picture, we can only guess at what they're real intensions are. If we're lucky, they may actually end up being a stabilizing force. If we're not, well. There is good reason why the Marines are in western Iraq
