MATTY PAGE
Hi all, I just would like some opinions on backing beats, whether that be professional backing tracks or using the guitar pro files and muting the guitar. Now I know if I had the choice I would have the real deal, singer, guitarist or two, bass and drums. But me and my mate have struggled for so long finding the "right people" and have had no luck, we've had different people come and go over the years and to be honest haven't really got that far cause no ones commited, all the drummers we've had are complete arrogant tossers who are useless at keeping time, and the singers we've tried moan that they can't sing it in that key (so then you have to change the way the guitar and bass should be played), well I'm sorry but if your a good singer you should be able to sing it in any key. So from now to fill in the gaps we're gonna use backing beats, now I know that doesn't look as cool but I wanna go and play to people, unpaid or paid doesn't matter. I just wanna have fun so we're gonna have to use the backing parts we need. I actually don't have a problem with it, I think some backing beats are bloody amazing, at least you haven't got to worry about the drummer missing a beat. What do you think? Matthew!
Backing tracks are a toss up. If you use them right, your act can be awesome. One example: A band called Sleep Machine, from another city in Alaska, had similar problems. They had two people, but their music needed a drummer, bass, two guitars, and a singer. Their solution: record the tracks, videotape them playing drums and bass, and play the tapes live while they played guitar and sang. Turned out very well, and I thought it was pretty creative. Seeing the guys on the screen and right in front of me was really fun. They made the video nice. For a couple songs they videotaped themselves playing at half speed, then sped it up for the show so it looked like they were playing really fast while the music was at a normal tempo. Evster2012
If it works, and gets you playing, go for it! That's all that matters. Take Queen for example. Bohemian Rhapsody live? Of course they had a recording for the middle section. Some things you just can't replicate. Sure didn't diminish the show!

Reminds me of the New York 17.11.1978 concert, it's an audience recording and when the midle section of Bo Rhap starts on the tape, a nearby fan is NOT HAPPY. But indeed, it could not be relicated at all.
