Recommended Posts

Hay,

i was listening to STH last nast........as you do....... and i was thinking "wow those lyrics are amazing.......how did he come up with them....blah....blah.....blah" and then i was thinking about the guitar playing and again how amazing it was.

Than my mum came into my room and she heared the music and said " wow that Jimmy Page's song!" and that got me thinking...........again..........is STH a: Jimmy page song

Robert plant song?

I tend to think that it is a Robert Plant song becuase of those amazing lyrics.

What do you guys think? and state your reasons.

It's a group song. Jimmy crafted the main guitar, Jones brought the winds and structure, Bonzo fought to find the drum patterns that worked, and Robert brought the lyrics that cemented the song and lifted it from 1971 to eternity.

That's Zeppelin for ya! Four Sticks beating the same drum in unison.

Oh.......well i read on wikipedia that it was only written by P&P when they were in Wales.

Well, not to be conradictory, but yes, the body of the song was fleshed out by P&P at Bron-Yr-Aur, in Wales, however it took all four to bring it to what it became. The flutes. Bonzo's crashing drums during the solo. These are all elements that make the song as dynamic as it is. I think that matters, and shouldn't be overlooked. I have the demos, and it was truly a work of passion, but it took all of their input to bring it to fruition.

Again, that's just my opinion.

Furthermore, and I'm just going by memory, I don't think it was just Plant and Page at the cottage in Wales. I have a tape of them there where Bonzo is walking Plant's son through his ABCs. I must add an "I think" to that. I used to know all this stuff, but my mind has wandered as of late. Certainly someone will chime in soon. :D

Well that's your problem, right there!

I resisted, but. Yes, the infallible wiki freakin pedia! Any info posted there is only scrutinized by the most knowledgeable moderator. What if they don't know their ass from their elbow? Cause I'm sure they have an on-call Zep fact-finder to keep things tight.

Um, no, they don't. It takes trainspotters like us to point out "Hey, that's wrong", for them to amend their info.

Wikipedia is handy for general information, but get as deep as we can go, and you get wrong upon wrong.

As I recall Jimmy had the basic track written / recorded and played it to the rest of the guys.

Robert just started to write the lyric as he listened to Jimmy play.

He later said he didn't know where the words came from they just did.

An epiphany if you like.

As is his wont JPJ added the recorder and Bonzo the drums and JPJ being the genius he is, arranged it and they recorded it and voila the finished product.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That's how I've heard it. Can't disagree with that. Yeah, Pagey played, and sometone "pushed Robert's pen".

Then they conspired to backmask prayers to Satan and mess with generations of people who would later be on this thing called the Internet. As if Creem magazine didn't have it all sorted out in the 70s.

Sorry Reg, I'm just being silly. The sun's up, and I've been here since it went down. Yikes!

Yeah Creem, Circus & Circus Raves corrupted me too!

I was lucky in that my pops was a professor at the local University. As his kid, my 11 year old butt could go anywhere on campus, including the periodicals and microfiche rooms in the school library. If he had any idea what I was perusing! "Plantations Unreal" indeed! ;)
