LZ I & II 180 gram reissues

Recommended Posts

Vinyl geek territory here, so beware of extreme drooling.

I've found on eBay new sealed copies of LZ I & II in the same reissue style as albums by Velvet Underground etc. A black sticker on the front says something like "Now on 180 gram - hear it as it was meant to be heard etc" in gold lettering.

As a fan of the Classic Records reissues (now out of print and commanding high prices online), I'm wondering if any other vinyl junkie has seen or even better heard these 2 reissues. Are they actually remastered or just pressed on 180 gram vinyl? Who's pressing them?

The two copies I saw on eBay are going for 49.99 dollars apiece starting price. Bit much, so if they're available on order via my friendly indie store, I might do that.

Geek rant over.

Thoughts appreciated.

When I bought all the 180gr vinyl reissues (I'm talking about all the Zep albums, later on 200 gr by Viex) I paid not more than 20$ each ... now prices on ebay are higher ...

In the meantime you can take a look at all the sleeves on my Led Zep discographies from worldwide on my website :o

Cheers

I've got all albums on vinyl already, but I read they will be releasing TSRTS on four 180g LP set with six additional tracks and new liner notes by Cameron Crowe. That I have to get!

I have the complete catalog on Classic Records, and I can fully understand the high prices any fool or desperate soul would demand them. Are the ones on eBay from that set? Grab em! They're fantastic! I paid around $35 a piece for the single albums and $55 for PG and TSRTS, and since I ordered the whole set at once, Classic Records threw in a vinyl master of Walking into Clarksdale as a bonus. Too bad they're out of print. But if these are another label, and anyone can verify that they're equal, I'd pay $50 in a heartbeat!

The two on eBay are not the Classic Records versions, that's why I'm curious about their provenance.

Agree totally that the CR are the best - I've them all except LZ I, II and TSRTS (currently waiting for 4LP set delivery, drool).

I remember the Classic Records prices being a lot cheaper - it's amazing how the prices have gone up since going OOP.

Thanks for the link to your fantastic site. And I thought I was a Zep geek! I noticed that the LZ I & II reissues I saw on eBay aren't included, which leads me to believe that they're fairly recent.

I haven't heard these exact records in question, however I believe I have an album from a different band done by the same people. It was extremely high quality, so I guess you can get these and feel pretty safe about it.

I should have done more to get the Classic Records releases when I had the chance (i.e. they weren't ridiculously expensive). I managed to get an unopened copy of Led Zeppelin IV just before the big market boom on these items, but that'll probably be it for me as they almost all go for over $100 these days.
