What's the Next Concert You're Attending?

Yeah it's been quite a week....

Monday - Alice In Chains @ Hard Rock Live. Quick summary, we've seen them now 4 times (twice with and without Layne) and this was the first time seeing them headline (no opening act either). I think they need to stay as openers. They didn't have the energy to sustain the entire set (which was only 1h 45min). Jerry Cantrell is one of the most underrated musicians in the last 25 years, IMO. But they are much more intense as a 1 hour opener.

Tuesday - We went with a couple to the Ampitheatre in Tampa (changes its name every 6 months) and were supposed to have lawn seats. Well, the show didn't sell very well and they put us under the foof in the back, which kinda sucked because it rained earlier and ended up being a beautiful evening with a nice breeze off the Gulf. Anyway, I've never been a big fan of Elvis but they put on a good set. We caught the last half and many people were up out of their seats dancing away. Steely Dan I've been a fan of for years but whenever they come around the tickets always were overpriced, IMO. We picked up a four pack of tickets for a great price of $30 per ticket, so I wasn't going to miss them. It was a thoroughly enjoyable show. Good energy, great crowd vibe, excellent musicianship. Very glad we went - except the traffic on the interstate took what should've been a 45 min trip home and made it 2 1/2 hours, due to overnight construction!

Wednesday - hosted a dinner party at our house for my father-in-law's 76th birthday.

Today getting prepped and packed up for a cruise leaving tomorrow morning to the Bahamas.

Here is the set list for Steely Dan:

Cubano Chant

(Ray Bryant cover)

Black Cow

Aja

Hey Nineteen

Black Friday

Time Out of Mind

Show Biz Kids

Rikki Don't Lose That Number

Dirty Work

Babylon Sisters

Bodhisattva

Daddy Don't Live in That New York City No More

I Want To (Do Everything for You)

(Joe Tex cover)

Josie

Peg

My Old School

Reelin' in the Years

Kid Charlemagne

The Untouchables

(Nelson Riddle cover)

My Old School was my fav of the night.

Wow; I would love to see them! Sounds amazing!

It's War on Drugs week.

First, one of Adam's original co-conspirators of The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile is playing tonight at The Fonda Theatre.

Then The War on Drugs are playing the Greek Theatre on Friday, October 16. When the shows were announced I was hoping Kurt might make an appearance at the Greek or vice versa, but their schedules don't mesh. Kurt will be at the Fillmore in San Francisco on Friday.

Tonight I will be seeing the Golden Earring. At a club no less, the "Paard van Troje" (Trojan Horse).

This should be special as they usually play much larger venues, festivals, concert halls or arenas. And yes, in the 70's they opened for Led Zep and Aerosmith.....Still a very good band, especially guitarist George Kooymans, that man is great (He's no Jimmy, but still a VERY good guitar player).

My favourite band from Athens, Georgia is back again on the road and in town tonight! Kevin Barnes and his band of merrymakers of Montreal!

Nov. 4: of Montreal @ The Regent Theatre.

Unfortunately, once again my friend will miss of Montreal because of work...the second time this year.

Thursday November 12: RIDE @ The Wiltern Theatre.

Glad Andy Bell got tired of dicking around with Oasis and reunited Ride after nearly 20 years. "Nowhere" and "Going Blank Again" are still in my regular rotation of albums...great shoegaze guitar noise.

Getting up in the morning to drive 6+ hours to see Kevin Gates in Norfolk, VA.
I've got the VIP Meet and Greet, which is why I'm driving so far.
Wanted to go to the Charlotte NC show (about 2.5 hours away), but by the time I got paid, they were sold out of VIP packages.

Then, 2 days after I purchased, he added a show in Columbia,SC (only 1 hour away, LOL), but they don't do refunds.
Still pretty jazzed about seeing him.
Gonna try to get him to record a short video shout-out to my 17 year-old son, who got me turned on to Gates in the first place.
He's currently at Youth Challenge Academy and can't go with me.

Really, Really looking forward to this one. LOL

What a show!
Kevin Gates was unbelievable!
Best of all, got to meet him and he recorded a video shout-out to my son, who couldn't be there as he is attending Youth Challenge Academy.
Super-cool guy.

Most of my recent concerts have been small ones involving friends and whatnot...VUM, Miranda Lee Richards, etc...but now some big ones are coming up.

Saturday March 5: Johnny Marr @ El Rey Theatre

March 8: Animal Collective @ Fonda Theatre

March 11: Loreena McKennitt @ Theatre at the Ace Hotel

March 15, 17, and 19: Bruce Springsteen & the E Street band @ LA Sports Arena

March 24: David Gilmour @ Hollywood Bowl

March 26: Wolfmother @ Fonda Theatre

April 15: Iron Maiden @ LA Forum

I feel like the Concert Year has finally begun in earnest. Unfortunately, I have to miss tonight's Lucinda Williams concert at UCLA due to work. :(

David Gilmour at Hollywood Bowl sounds like an amazing night!  Didn't know you were still such a big Springsteen fan, Strider, 3 nights - wow!
