Jimmy and the Black Crowes

Recommended Posts

Wonderful posts BUK. I think most of us mature fans :D can totally appreciate the difficulties that these rockers will or have faced . Just like regular folk, lifes abuses come back and kick you usually when you least expect it. Having a commited peer or two that are willing to address the uniqueness of the R&R lifestyle can only be a positive. All too often we as fans forget that these rockers have lives of they're own, family to deal with, health issues etc that at the end of the day makes them just as fragile as the rest of us. In all these cases it is my personal opinion that if they need to trade off the music buisness to maintain a healthy normal life then....they should.

How's it going? I enjoyed reading all of the posts pertaining to PAGEY & THE CROWS. I tell ya, I really enjoyed seeing them live at the Greek on 19 October 1999. If anyone has a bootleg of this show on DVD like I do, you can see my head in front of the camera that my friend recorded. My friend recorded the show from the back of the Greek. The band was really tight that night and really intended to kick some serious ass. The songs that weren't on the album such as "No Speak No Slave," "Hard To Handle" and "Remedy" were really performed well with Pagey.

IMG00067-1.jpg Unfortunately never got to use this Phoenix ticket,

I remember watching Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes Thurday on Leno perform "The Wanton Song"with an amazing performance of it by Jimmy thinking I would be seeing them in Vegas the next night(Friday), I was all pumped, My best friend was living there and when good concerts would come he would call me and I'd go and vice versa and he was pumped too, We both had no clue the vegas date was cancelled until the very last minute, We were not on the internet then, but it should not have been so hard for my friend to find out if the vegas date was cancelled without being on the internet. My friend would have normally found out something like that. I was talking to him on the phone a number of times days before the show and talked about it and we were stoked. They were impossible tickets to get, they were playing at the Hard Rock Cafe and my friend would be picking up the tickets through his connections. So the next morning after seeing Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes on Leno, I went to work; i had it all planned to leave at noon, and drive to vegas (5 hour drive, Phoenix to Vegas), So I get to work in the morning all pumped because I'm doin' the vegas thing for a mind-blowing weekend, and then my boss(who knew I was going)informed me it had been cancelled. I said "B.S. it's been cancelled" and then he showed me on the internet. So I immediately call my friend in vegas from work and he says "You should start heading down here, get your butt down here!" and I told him it had been cancelled and he said the same thing I said to my boss, "B.S. it's been cancelled, get your butt over here!" So the trip was cancelled the last minute to Vegas...It was a fiasco...oh well...

I am happy to read all the great posts from people on this board who got to see it...

I'd call it a pairing. While the setlist from their last public concert (below) shows just four Black Crowes songs were performed bear in mind all the material was played by Jimmy with The Black Crowes :)

Set List: Celebration Day, Wanton Song, Misty Mountain Hop, Custard Pie, No Speak No Slave, Sick Again, What Is & What Should Never Be, Horsehead, Oh Well, Ten Years Gone, In My Time Of Dying, Your Time Is Gonna Come, Remedy, Lemon Song, In The Light, Shapes Of Things, Nobody's Fault But Mine, Heartbreaker

Encore: Bring It On Home, She Talks To Angels, Out On The Tiles, Whole Lotta Love

If I remember correctly (and I could be wrong - I was once before :D ), the Black Crowes record label or some kind of contractual suff prevented their own tunes being included on the official Live At The Greek release.

I read somewhere Chris Robinson said he respected Jimmy Page as a musician but not as a man or something to that effect. I know everyone around here is about facts but I do not remember exactly where I read it. I remember it because I was shocked and taken back by such a ugly remark.

Due to the fact Chris Robinson spat on a woman in a 7-11 back in 1991 he is the last guy to speak of being a man. I find him not respecting Jimmy as a man as laughable and hypocritical. I love the Cowes music but Chris Robinson is a whiny bitch, great singer and songwriter but still a whiny bitch.

Could you possibly rescan (or photograph) and repost them individually without cutting them off at all? Is that a mailing label on the first one, meaning that add was published on the back cover?

False

This sentence was the reason i said it:

I can’t wait to see what he’s got in store. I little bird told me he might play with the Black Crowes in London. That would be cool. Perhaps the day of reckoning is at hand, as the Old Ones waken from their nigh-eternal slumber.

Yeah, when my sister shared this with me, my heart sank. No one wants to hear what future masterpieces Jimmy has up his sleeve more than me and at the time it just seemed like another good thing gone bad.

It's tough to get people to back you/commit to you when your track record over the recent past is spotty. We all want to see Jimmy operate with the confidence, dignity and grace that his gift deserves.

A good friend of mine is friends with a famous old band (I know this is vague), so consequently gets to travel backstage and visit the parties that ensue. It's mostly a lot of "one last time get togethers" and the like. There's nothing more pitiful than a 60 something with a teenager's maturity.

He got out of the Biz many years ago and has rebuilt his life. He's taken it as his mission to help some of these old children. The years of bad road and abuse have not been kind to them and a lot of them are just lost souls. That "RocknRoll will never die" stuff doesn't cut it when you are a second tier road vet and all the AARP ills are beginning to come upon you. You can ignore reality for just so long; eventually you've just gotta deal with your life. I'm glad he's got a heart for these guys and some of them seem to be responding.

Hopefully I can come up with more depressing thoughts to bum out your day.....

Not at all. Really well written and thought out.... and realistic.

I think with my scanner that was about the best I could do at the moment, my camera is a piece of crap, Only a little bit of it is cut off though. I'll see what I can do, but please give me time because it won't be immediate, I'll try. That little piece of paper on the first picture was taken from a page, it shows the page number, the word "New Times", and has the publication date "June 1-7, 2000". I put that on there for archive purposes, but when I resized the picture it was not legible. Those two pictures were in the middle of the magazine just like I have them posted here on the board.

Fair enough; I'll look for them to reappear in due course, at which time I will use photoshop to remove the wrinkles so as to archive the best possible copies.

I keep looking for a "thanks" in there somewhere but can't seem to find one.

I'm sure Steve is appreciative on what luvlz2 did for him. Just overlooked. Many times I've received a thank you from Steve, for various info I've provided. Your sarcasm and asinine comments aren't necessary. There also may have been PMs involved that you don't know about.

It has been rumored but that doesn't make it true, which I think is what you are really asking. Frankly, and without getting into why, I'd be disappointed if he ever played with them again, particularly this week.

You'll be disappointed then Steve!
