Angel With A Broken Wing
The "Cliques" thread which was up earlier this week (and since been removed) got me wondering how many Zep fans were (are) fraternity brothers or sorority sisters in their college days. Not that they are cliques per se, but it made me think of them since they are sub-groups in the university student body. Greek life wasn't a big thing at my school back in the 70s, there were a lot of groups but there weren't a lot of formal activities and such. The guys all had their individual frat houses but the sororities had just a suite in one large panhellenic building. I joined Alpha Gamma Delta my sophomore year....hung out with my "sisters" a couple of times a week but lived with, and partied with, my "freak" friends (into drugs) otherwise. And I couldn't get anyone from either group interested in Led Zeppelin though God knows I tried. Anyone else in Greek society? And are they international or just at American colleges? AMAZONIC
I would have loved to be in one of these if I was to attend uni in the US!!! It seems to be fun. I don't think there are similar fraternity groups in the universities in Italy... I love your signature, AWABW. Pretty cool
Virginia
No. My friends and I did go to fraternity parties but none of us were in a sorority.

docron
Fraternities/Sororities are ridiculous. I can think of plenty of better things to do than pay for fake friends. Besides, at my school, the people in those things were regarded as huge douchebags.

Well, I have to admit, AWABW, after seeing that photo of you and your friends under the LZ poster, I never imagined that, back in college, you were a sorority girl. As someone who cherishes diversity, I think you were very wise to have friends both within and out of your sorority. Back to your poll: No, I never joined a sorority in college - primarily because from what I saw of the sororities, I had the impression that they dictated how one could dress and act and who one could or could not have as friends. OT, for some reason, all these years later, I remember the sorority at the top of the social hierarchy: girls who, when they went to the bars wore, almost exclusively, Bass weejuns, Sperry topsiders, Fair Isle sweaters, Polo shirts, with chinos or jeans. My husband went to a college that had some financially well-endowed fraternities; the frat houses were magnificent but he also, for reasons similar to my own, declined to join a fraternity. All that said, our oldest daughter did join a sorority. I remember asking her, "Are you sure you want to do this?" It turned out to be nothing like what I imagined - like you, she has friends both within and outside of her sorority (her best friend is not in a sorority). All of the members are very independent. It seems that what brings them together are the service activities (e.g., volunteering to help the victims/rebuilding of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, tsunami relief, etc.). I've met her "sisters" and their parents (most of whom were never part of a Greek organization either) and they are a very diverse group of people. Footsteps of Dawn
No effing way. First off, my college is the biggest collection of geeks on the West Coast, so if you're joining a fraternity/sorority for the "cool factor," you're S.O.L. I don't need to pay to meet fellow nerds. Secondly, I myself don't think much of the "cool" kids, anyway, so I'm not exactly interested in hanging out with your stereotypical sorority girl. I'm sure there are a lot of nice people in frats and sororities out there, but I'm just not really into the "Greek life."

You don't have to be affiliated with a frat/sorority to tap many'a kegs... ... trust me.
The Rover
For my Freshman year at the University, I wound up rooming with a guy who was pledging a Greek fraternity. I remember most that he took a lot of showers, and blow-dryed his hair a lot..... All to make a good impression with his Greek sisters. It was all about "looking good". He listened to Rock "Hits" radio.... I listened to Album Rock Radio.... I wan't in a Greek organization, so I cannot comment about them, except for I learned about them through the movie Animal House....
