WIMBLEDON...THAT WAS EPIC!

It is ironic, I suppose, that one of my favourite 4th of July

traditions is watching the Wimbledon Championships, Women and Men.

Actually was lucky enough to be able to attend Wimbledon in 1983 and 1984.

This year's Men's final was simply epic, no make that EPIC!

Worthy of mention in the class of the 1980 Borg-McEnroe final.

Congrats to both Nadal and Federer for giving us a whopper of a match!

It was everything you want in a championship...tough, riveting, back-and-forth,

athletic tussle.

I was cheering for Federer, but you can't deny that Nadal has stepped up

his game on grass...and has closed the gap faster than Federer has closed

the gap between them on clay.

Now to see how Federer responds to this loss, coupled with the shellacking Nadal

gave him in the French Open.

I had thought Federer would have won his French Open by now...and that he would

win a French title before Nadal would win a Wimbledon.

Doubt crept into my mind after this year's French Open...and now I wonder if we

aren't witnessing the changing of the guard?

Is it now Nadal's time, while Federer gets older and starts to fade? I still think Federer

has it in him to win 2 to 4 more Grand Slams, and still pass Pete Sampras as all-time

leader.

But with Nadal, it seems to be more of a mental thing now...he has to get mentally

tougher as Nadal just seemed so much more focused and intense in both the French

and Wimbledon finals.

No question now, that Federer vs. Nadal is THE rivalry of the moment in tennis...even

better, in my opinion, than Sampras-Agassi.

Bravo, gentlemen, BRAVO, for a well-played match for the ages.

What an Epic final , but in the end it just wasn't to be for my man Roger , there was hardly anything between them all through the game but at the end of the day you can't win them all , this had to be the best mens final in history , awesome play , no other men can live with these two on a tennis court , but i think the last rain delay and one or two unforced errors at the wrong time did it in the end .

Roger is still number one and i know he will win it next year , i can't see Nedal doin' five on the trot as good as he is , Roger is still number 1 and his grace and humility even in defeat should be a lesson to us all .

My thoughts are with you Roger , you are still Numero Uno !! :notworthy:

It really was a wonderful afternnon and evening of entertainment! My daughter was amused by how enthralled Gavin Rossdale was and how utterly bored Gwen Stefani looked!!

I too was supporting Federer but I'm kind of glad he didn't eclipse Borg - still my hero.

Great, great game.

Yeah just brilliant

I was as emotional as Nadal when he won, I was so happy for him

Gwen Stefani...I could not understand that...what was she doing up there? I mean is she married to Roger's brother or something? The only three women sitting up there were Roger's Mother, Roger's Wife and Gwen Stefani...I didn't get it

I can't believe that I witnessed that match! I have no nails left! My favorite sport. My favorite player. AND HE WON! :D I've always been jealous of anyone who witnessed the epic Borg-McEnroe matches and now I can say that I've witnessed one of the best matches the sport has ever had. I'm so deliriously happy!

I haven't been that nervous watching a match since Pete was down a set and 1-4 in the second set tiebreak to Rafter in 2000. It also isn't easy for me to concede that watching a match where Pete Sampras won his 7th Wimbldeon could be topped, but dear God in Heaven, what a match Federer and Nadal played today! I can't imagine anything ever coming close to this match...EVER!

I don't expect Federer to wilt away by any means. Though he probably isn't feeling it at the moment, he should be proud of what a wonderful match he played. Losing 9-7 in the fifth isn't anything to be ashamed of. It will definitely take a lot for him to come back, but he'll do it. That's what champions do. Each of them showed such tremendous heart and determination and both should stand tall.

I was going to get 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 tattooed on my arm but now I'm going to have to go with 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 9-7 instead :D !

I bow to them both :notworthy: !

Ok, back to celebrating Rafa's win!

ps: I didn't even know Gwen Stefani was there. I don't think American TV showed her. Or I was just too into the match to notice. Either way, RAFA WON!

Gwen is married to Gavin Rossdale, the good-looking chap who was sitting next to Roger's girlfriend. Gavin must be a big tennis fan -- he was there (attending matches) for about a week. One of the announcers said that the Rossdales (or Rossdale-Stefanis if you will) are friends with Roger & Mirka (sp?).

I was sad that Roger didn't win, but it was an amazing match.

RAPHAEL ! ! RAPHAEL ! !

I was rooting for him three years ago. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!:yay::banana:

Best match I've seen.

No doubt two of the BEST. Sad, Fed didn't tie Borgs record, but Rafa has deserved this after such grueling competitions!

I'm so happy for Spain!! Soccer, now tennis.....Grrrrrowwwow. Spaniards *sigh*

Federer acts like such a cocky mutha on court, but in interviews and such he seems like a nice enough guy.

You would've seen her, but probably didn't realise it was her, as all TV coverage of the final is the same, it's all produced by the BBC then fed to the international networks
