One and Only
Has anyone heard any recordings of the zep members playing as the yardbirds? I think it would be interesting to hear plant's take on some of the yardbird's music..
3hrsoflunacy
The Yardbirds and Zeppelin both played The Train Kept-A-Rollin'. Zeppelin played Dazed and Confused, which is very similar to I'm Confused by the Yardbirds. Zeppelin played Tangerine, which is musically (not lyrically) very similar to Knowing that I am Losing You. Zeppelin played For Your Love on 1969.01.05 in W. Hollywood at the Whisky A Go Go. The music was changed up but I believe the lyrics remained the same. There may be a few more, but that's all I can pull off the top of my head. The earliest circulating recording of live Zeppelin is 1968.12.30 in Spokan, WA. By this time, they were no longer billed as The New Yardbirds, but at Led Zeppelin.
swandown
Yardbirds-Zep influences: Dazed And Confused - The Yardbirds had performed it numerous times from December 1967 through June 1968. How Many More Times - The Yardbirds' 1968 live performances of "Smokestack Lightning" were a major influence on HMMT. White Summer - originally recorded for The Yardbirds' 1967 album "Little Games" The Train Kept A-Rollin' - a staple of Yardbirds concerts; it was performed at most Zep shows in 1968-69. For Your Love - ironically, Jimmy rarely played this song with The Yardbirds, but Zep did perform it a few times in 1968-69. Tangerine - this song traces its roots to an unreleased Yardbirds demo called "Knowing That I'm Losing You" Think About It - the song's guitar solo was later recycled for Zep's "Dazed And Confused". I'm A Man - a staple of Yardbirds concerts; it occasionally turned up in Zep medleys. Shapes Of Things and Over Under Sideways Down - also made a couple appearances in Zep medleys. The Song Remains The Same - the opening chords were influenced by The Yardbirds' "Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor" As Long As I Have You - Page once said that The Yardbirds had performed this song. I also remember reading somewhere (Give or take a brain cell!) that the riff from The Yardbirds' classic song "I'm Not Talking" had somewhat of an influence on "Whole Lotta Love." What's your take on that?
