eternal light Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Looks like RP made a guest appearance over the weekend. Kristina Donahue sang her part very well and the mandolin sounded wonderful. And who is that guy singing with her? Oh, it's Robert Plant. Thanks for posting. Quote
AlexKx Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 So is this the GROUP Fairport Convention? And who is this lady singing with them? Is she part of the group? Quote

Roxie Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Great video! Love hearing BOE in any form. But the original will always be the best. Quote
the queen without a king Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 (edited) Thanks for the link. Robert sounded really good...didn't really like Kristina's vocals though. Seemed a little off from the start. It is a hard song to sing though... Edited August 16, 2008 by the queen without a king Quote
Roxie Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 .didn't really like Kristina's vocals though. Seemed a little off from the start. It is a hard song to sing though... Yeah I've been so used to hearing Alison sing it lately, it seemed a bit odd to hear another voice. But you're right, it can't be the easiest song to sing. Quote
Aquamarine Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Does make you appreciate Alison's voice, though, doesn't it? Quote
Kentuckygirl Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Yeah I've been so used to hearing Alison sing it lately, it seemed a bit odd to hear another voice. But you're right, it can't be the easiest song to sing. Anyone that attempts that song deserves an award. I am no musician but it sounds incredibly hard. Opening night in Louisville, Alison was definitely NOT having fun, all stiff and uptight. I wonder how much BOE played into that. Especially since about 40% of the audience were wearing Led Zeppelin clothing. Quote

Especially since about 40% of the audience were wearing Led Zeppelin clothing. From my perspective (as a musician) I don't think the song is that hard to sing except for the fact it's harmony and live that's always a bit more of a challenge when you're having to do it together in one take (as opposed to the studio where each person sings their part alone). I think she does a great job on it - especially as the tour went on and they got more settled into things - she really let go a bit more there. Quote
Angel With A Broken Wing Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Thanks for the link. Beautiful song. And he looks downright dashing in that oversized jacket......I can (finally) take him home to meet the parents. Quote
the queen without a king Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Does make you appreciate Alison's voice, though, doesn't it? Definitely. That's because harmonies are her forte. She can jump into any song and harmonise effortlessly. The version Robert and her perform on the Raising Sand tour is beautiful. She nails it! Quote
Knebby Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Its a bit of a cheek to use that as the front and back cover - he was onstage for one song in a 3 & 1/2 hour set. Quote
Shankly Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Yeah -I guess it was, but I couldn't resist it - much as I love Fairport, Robert being there was the highlight of the set. Quote
