widget Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 "David Beckham will star at the Olympics closing ceremony in Beijing as the handover to London 2012 gets under way. The spectacular event on August 24 will also see Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page performing a duet with pop star Leona Lewis. And an incredible finale will feature Becks, 33, arriving on top of one of London's iconic red double-decker buses - before he kicks a football into the crowd to celebrate. Hundreds of dancers from the UK will then perform ballet and break-dancing routines as the countdown to 2012 begins. An insider said: "It is set to be one of the most mind-blowing spectacles ever. David was elated to be asked to take part, as was everyone who has been invited. "Having a rock god like Jimmy Page and a singer like Leona Lewis performing together for the first time will certainly be something to remember." http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2...15875-20696807/ Meg Quote
whyalla Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 A Page and Lewis collaboration! Hope this isn't going to effect Zeppelin's 2009 World Tour - Robert would be furious. Quote
whyalla Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 ha, ha, ha, not again! Afraid so. And I don't want to be a 'rumour monger' but could this pave the way for a 2012 reunion concert? Quote
Vega Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Afraid so. And I don't want to be a 'rumour monger' but could this pave the way for a 2012 reunion concert? My gut feeling tells me that our guys really need that Led Zeppelin Letter that was discussed in the other thread. It was not a bad idea, anyway. Quote
SIBLY Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 This is the kind of stuff Pagy usually avoids like the plague. I'm going to need a better source than The Mirror before I'm convinced. Quote

croquet'n'cocaine Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 This is weird. I was thinking the other day about what London could do for a memorable 2012 opening ceremony and having a great band play is the best I could come up with - i.e. Led Zeppelin. Yeah, have a couple of dancers and some fireworks too, whatever, but just having the band play would eclipse any previous Olympics. Completely forgot about the handover at the closing ceremony. With the mood Jimmy seems to be in at the moment, I could actually see this happening, even if it is a bit unlikely. Quote
SIBLY Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I note the Daily Mail story doesn't claim a Lewis/Page duet. Jimmy aint much of a singer anyway. It'll take Pagey longer than 8 minutes to tune up. What would they play anyway? A Whole Lotta Burning Love I suppose! Quote
ally Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I didn't know duckwalking was an Olympic event Quote
Reggie29 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Reggie29 Aug 9 2008, 01:59 PM Post #71 QUOTE (Little Miss @ Aug 9 2008, 12:49 AM) What the HELL is London gonna do for the ceremony... I bet ours will be horrible. Probably break dancing and rapping along side with some gimps forced to walk around in Tudor dress. I actually hope they all do crazy posh royal stuff.. How about Led Zeppelin performing at both the opening and closing ceremonies? They indicated they would play at "special events" for the right reasons, right? Representing your country is the highest privelege anyone can afford. Can you imagine a giant airship igniting the cauldron!? Boycott that! The above was from the Olympics thread in the Ramble On forum. If it does turn out to be true it would be more than I could have wished for. Now if RP, JPJ and JB could join in that would be something! Bring it on home..... Quote

We need to see this man playing with or without Robert! Quote
