An eight-minute segment marking the handover to London, which will host the Games in 2012, had soul sensation Lewis and Page on top of a red double-decker bus rocking to Whole Lotta Love. The sexually-explicit song had to be amended to satisfy Chinese censors.

Man oh man - that is a SWEET freakin picture!!!!!! Pagey just looks so awesomely HOT!!!

:thanku:

And, thanks so much to my kind-hearted friend in Oz who was sweet enough to report to some of us on Jimmy's performance as well as sharing the details about his outfit and how he wore his hair even before the first photos hit the net.

I know exactly what you mean MSG, and I second all of that!! :thanku:

After all the excitement that this morning has brought, I realize that I might not be back home this evening in time to watch the airing of the closing ceremonies here.

Oh I hope you have a DVR or Tivo then - this is definitely a keeper!!! ;):)

I thought it was brill even though pre recorded. However It still means its Jimmy playing on the recording! And it was most likely the chinese that laid down the rules for that one.

Can't wait for the photos from Ross Halfin, he was def there btw, although i didnt see him on tv.

http://www.rosshalfin.co.uk/diary/august-2...august-2008.php

There should be plenty of photos coming as Ross had already taken some at the rehearsals in London.

Hello gseehq, I've said before in this theme, that we can have different points of the government. And I really don't want a debatte here. But please, don't sentence a whole country into death if you don't really know it.

Just becaue China is communist doesn't mean the chinese are oppressive and brutal. You're accusing us for paralling the Nazi Olympics. I always have to grin when people said our 2008 drummers are so powerful and it's scaring etc. China has got those collective thoughts thousand years before Communism or Nationalsocialism ever came up .Or it's just the medias in your country telling you that?

And Jimmy may see China different than you. When all you see is negative, Jimmy may see the long history and the beautiful culture there. The chinese have wonderful music as well.

As a chinese, I'm really happy that my favorite guitarist will perform in my country. As a fan of Led Zeppelin, I'm happy too that Jimmy get such a great honour and he deserves that.

Beautifully stated glicine, I understand you & feel the same.

Wow! That was really cool! Jimmy of course was spectacular and LL did a really fine job! And Jimmy looked absolutely gorgeous...(and LL as well).

LL really has some serious potential, imho--WLL suits her vocal power a whole heck of a lot more than the material she's been doing.

I know this is getting to be my m.o.--sceptical then thrilled--but, well, it's always nice to be pleasantly surprised!

Loved all the interview footage, too. Thanks for the clips everyone!

Good on yer, Jimmy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought LL did an excellent job, too--and of course Jimmy, though on the clips I saw you couldn't hear him too well. And I want to hear him REALLY well, to distract my attention from the dancing umbrellas, etc. ;)

LOL I concentrated totally on Jimmy and didn't quite get the changed lyrics. But Leona did it really good, though she looked a bit nervous at the beginning (eh, it was really a bit too high to stand IMO).

I'm just happy happy happy.

If you isolated Leona and Jimmy, that was fabulous...but the rest of the London presentation was a bit cringeworthy

Jimmy popped out that bus like the beginning of Camberwick Green!!

If your 40+ and British, you'll know what I mean :D

The bit I am on about starts at the minute mark!

Well, it was nice to see Jimmy and hear him play. I did wonder at one point if he was playing but decided he was!

But personally, I didn't like Leona Lewis or anything about our (British) 8 minute handover slot. I thought it was embarassing, but that's not for here.

:)

I really am believing some of Jimmys play was live. Why bother with the cord, transmitter, monitor w/cable, if NOT?

Others here dont care, I do and wish I could determine positively.

Maybe Jimmy will confirm. :D

Definitely saw notes fretted amidst the posturing that were not heard.

Apart from the dancing umbrellas, well done! Great to see JP back in action and I thought their arrangement of WLL worked well. I've always liked Leona Lewis (do think some of her songs are a bit overproduced, but I think the talent is clearly there) and I thought it was good to see her voice showcased so well.

I was so focused on JP and LL I barely even noticed Becks!

Thanks to everyone for the pictures, links, comments, etc. I appreciate it since we'll be the last to see it on TV, being on the US west coast.

STEVE.......

Only you could think of that woulderful "Sign", Get it copy-written, before the "Big-Wigs" try & take more money to pay for the Poxy 2012 FARCE.

How you doin mate, still havin "Flashbacks" from Wembley 22/05/08,

"Hey-Robert I Love You", i belive was the Cry.

All the best Friend,

Hang-man.

Hi Hang-man, haven't seen you here in a long time, hope you are feeling better. I agree with you 100% about this wonderful sign that Steve (?) made.

I barely tuned in to the Olympics, (track and field mostly) but

for some reason the closing ceremony was on at home

I was totally unprepared when Jimmy Page appeared on the elevator coming out of that bus. My mind was thoroughly blown.

(been totally absent from the board)

I think that was the highlight of the games for me

The thing that's really worth mentioning.... and probably was already, but

I'm too pumped to read through 30 pages before posting (sorry)

The man, the music used to represent London, the whole UK, really,

was not the Beatles, IT WAS LED ZEPPELIN!!!!!

I've never thought about going to an Olympic Games, but

I'm about this far from ordering tickets to the opening and closing ceremonies,

if nothing else. It was so awesome to see Jimmy... didn't matter what he did.

Neat, I think in a way it is more exciting to be unprepared and get the huge surprise like you did than to anticipate these appearances beforehand. I'm like you -- already planning to get tickets for the London Olympics 2012.

{Note to qseehq -- After reading your other comments, I may have to take back my IMVU invitation, I don't want you coming into my home and throw flames at my CHINESE family! Clean up your act brother.}

Back to Jimmy, he was fantastic! I'm sure he would have become an Olympic hurdler had the guitar not gotten in the way. :D He wins the gold medal in AWESOMENESS!!

I thought she sounded great and Jim and her I thought gelled well together. I have said before I do not like her music but she does have a really fab voice, as for the rest of the eight min slot : it was vibrant and a good contrast to the overly produced Chinese stuff, so for me I think it was great but thats my opinion, no need for being embaressed :)

I'll have the Plasma and High Def Surround Rockn the roof tonight!

Leona was hauntingly good! She was feeling it!

Still looking forward to the entire telly show but HOORAY for the vids I've heard and seen!!! This kewl pic may have already been posted but I'm way to lazy to wade through the 4 threads on the topic to find out.... :)
