SHOULD LED ZEPPELIN OPEN THE LONDON OLYMPIC GAMES IN 2012?

Recommended Posts

How's it going fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? Long time no hear! My father has been in the hospital the last few days with Pneumonia. I hope he gets well soon. My father and I just so happen to watch the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing from the hospital. We also saw Pagey's performance with Leona Lewis which we both enjoyed. What did all of you think of Jimmy's performance with Leona Lewis? Pagey's performance at the closing of the Olympic Games in Beijing with the torch being handed to London for the 2012 Games gives a questionable speculation of what is yet to come. What if, since Pagey accepted the torch from Beijing and to take it back to London for the 2012 Games, if LED ZEPPELIN were to open the ceremonies for the London Games in 2012? That would mean that LED ZEPPELIN would have to tour the world over in 2009 up to 2012 to get prepared for the 2012 event. What do all of you think of that? Please enlighten me with your opinions and thoughts, it may be wishful thinking but you never know. Who would have ever believed that Pagey would close the Olympic Games? ROCK ON!

Okay I'll be first! First, sorry to hear about the illnesses. That's always a huge thing to deal with. Second, are you kidding?? 2012- Jimmy will be 68. I wished it too for about a whole 6 seconds before I did the math.

Take care, and keep dreamin' those dreams because they're free and nobody can take them away from you.

I echo my esteemed friend above in regards to your father. Here's to a speedy recovery.

Zep playing the olymics in London in 2012? FANTASTIC!!! Nice bookending too! I'm sure my 68 year old friends will assure you that it doesn't feel much different than 64! Here's to it!

What makes you think he couldn't do it?

Too old?

Give me a break!

BB King is STILL playing and he's over 80!

Anyway, with a clear conscience I could not possibly watch the 2012 games.

I mean how could I when the British just sit there and watch those poor Lemmings drop off the edge like that.

There's always going to be fools making a big deal out of everything, expecting them to be stellar.

They were stellar at the O2. Just sayin. ;)

What's a few more years in the bigger picture?

No offense meant. It's just that from what I've seen and heard, they can still whip out something their contemporaries couldn't hope to match. Zeppelin was heard that night. And it was magnificent. :D

I sincerely hope that your father is doing well and will be outta there soon. My own personal opinion is no, I don't think that they should open the London Olympics. That IMHO would just be a little too much parady. I'm hopefull that this will not be an issue and that all of the members are active either on they're own or heaven forbid :D together when the time comes.

Oh trust me, I bet they were stellar, but we're talking about 4 more years; and it may not be a lot for us (I'm 21), but for a 75 year old body, it just gets harder and harder. It's not impossible of course, but hard nonetheless.

Furthermore, it's the Olympics, Led was never involved too much into..sports. This is something the rolling stones are more likely to do. And not because they are more capable, but they always do these kind of opening ceremonies (specially Jagger).

Look at it this way, Led Zeppelin would be opening for the main event...which is the Olympics. But thing is...Led Zeppelin, SHOULD be the main event. ;)

Who'll be 75 in 2012? Jimmy showed all the energy and enthusiam I saw onstage with Page and Plant ten years ago.

Here's the thing about Jimmy. The man has an incredilble strength of will. The man practically collapsed nightly in his 20s and 30s from the effort of live performance. But he delivered. I have no doubt he could rise to the occasion 48 months from now.

And yes, they SHOULD be the main event!

Oh, and on the age scale, the Stones are older. ;)

And Keith? It's a worldwide wonder he's even alive!

Was this a tease for the Pagettes?

(Hey, somebody had to do it!)

I mentioned them because they're more commercial. You have no idea how tired I am of seeing Mick Jagger showing up for Super Bowl halftimes, kick-offs, and all sorts of ceremonies.

Yeah, I get that. Heck, Steven Tyler is older than Robert Plant, and Aerosmith does that stuff too!

I'm just saying that if they wanted to do it, they certainly could. That's all.

Robert will be the same age Jimmy and Roger Daltrey are now. Both clearly young enough to rock. I have no doubt that Jimmy and Jonesy will still be able to play wonderfully, as long as neither of them break any fingers!

Or they could just come to Vancouver 2010. Because it's a great city, I live there, Zeppelin has a long history there and I live there. :D

You don't think Zeppelin would run the same risk of looking ridiculous in the same roll?

Besides, Plant would NEVER agree to do a commercial stunt like that anyway. I know some people here would critisize Plant for blackballing such an ill-advised scheme. But to me it gives him more credibility.

Let the Spice Girls open the London Olympics with the Rolling Stones. Led Zeppelin doesn't need such a silly display.

And I hope Pete and Roger were watching the sad performance in Bejing, unless they too get any stupid notions for 2012 themselves. Although I'm sure their performance would probably be really great.

The Stones would have demanded sponsorship <_<

LOL- At first, I thought you wrote he'd make a nice bookend. Sorry! (That dream I had last night about Jimmy getting eaten by a mechanical 8 pronged-octopus didn't help much either ... :D:blush: )

You don't know Robert very well. Plant appeared in a Coca Cola commercial in 1988, lip-synching along to "Tall Cool One". Being asked to promote your city IMO is more honourable than endorsing a product like Coca Cola.

I didn't mean to say that Plant would not use any form of commercialism with his music. They did that Cadillac commercial too if you remember.

I just don't see a guy like Plant doing a Led Zeppelin song while popping out of a double decker bus at a sporting event.

And at least the Coca-Cola promo was a good performance.

If you regard lip-synching with coke bottles being passed around a good performance, then our definitions of good and performance differs considerably.

But Robert isn't from London. Oh were you comparing to Jimmy? Nevermind.........
