Oh, it's many! But some examples, Robert Plant, Bruce Dickinson, Paul D'ianno (former Iron Maiden-singer), James Hetfield (in the old Metallica-songs), John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Marie Fredriksson, Per Gessle, Zack De La Rocha, John Lydon Aka Johnny Rotten (he has no fine voice, but good in other ways. Can be funny sometimes xD), Jon Bon Jovi, Kurt Cobain, Steve Tyler, Ray Davies, Howlin' Pelle,

Some good singers.

Robert Plant

Jeff Buckley (check out his Zeppelin cover of Night Flight on youtube, spine chilling stuff and five octaves)

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Albert Kuvezin (From the Mongolian band Yat Kha....he can sing two voices at the same time without trickery, very weird and amazing)

Chris Cornell is number one for me, pretty easily.

Plant is up there too, of course, Geoff Tate, Bon Scott, Ozzy(namely Sabbath years, and the Ozzmosis album, nothing after that), James Labrie, Wayne Coyne, Johnny Cash, Steve Perry, Rob Halford.

I'm stopping now before I list every half-assed decent singer I like.

Honestly, I think the vocals are easily the weakest link in Yes. I'd much rather listen to just Squire, Howe, and Bruford.

I second that motion.

David Byrne - he's got character, man. Just listen him on Remain In Light - Born Under Punches is incredible.

Ian Curtis

John Fogerty

what's-her-name from Portishead, Beth Gibbons?

Mark E Smith

Thom Yorke

'n some others I've probly forgotten.

Well Robert Plant is definatley the most powerful (the strength of his voice) vocalist of all time especially to sing that high that loud, strong, and long.

edit: Freddie Mercury is very good too.

Oh I forgot those! all about good singig is of course the breathing. Dio said in one interview that when he was young he played trumpet s he learned the right breathing technigue. Ian Gillan did good screamin' but it ruined his great voice. Coverdale has lost it -sadly too.

some overrated singers mentioned here:

-Thom Yorke. he cannot sing for crap. sounds like he's getting hit in the nuts with a hammer.

-Kurt Cobain. unique voice, yes, but people who put him in company with plant, freddie, etc, need to get a brain. good songwriter, though.

oh, and i always thought David Bowie was a good singer.
