LedNoodle
I have a few choices i can't choose between. The Spirit of Radio - Rush I love this song dearly, and the lyrics, which i have memorized, always make me feel something emotional in a good way. 1st choice. Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd It's Only Rock n Roll (But I Like It) - Rolling Stones one of my favorite stones songs. perfectly phrased lyrics. Search and Destroy - the Stooges "I'm a street-walkin' cheetah with a heart full of napalm..." edit: anybody that mentions either Kashmir or Stairway to Heaven shall be severely punished. Yes, they are all great lyrics, but too obvious and often-sated here.
Jarlaxle 56
That's a fairly impossible judgement to make (best lyrics ever) If I had to say my favourite lyrics, I don't know...maybe Heroin by Lou Reed?

Yes, they are all great lyrics, but too obvious and often-sated here. How's it going fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? All your choices for Greatest Song Lyrics Ever are magnificent. However, if I had to choose one song for the greatest song lyrics ever, why not choose the greatest song lyrics from the all-time greatest song ever recorded. It was recorded by The Beatles and it was featured on the Rubber Soul album from 1965. The song, "In My Life." It goes word for word as follows: There are places I'll remember all my life, though some have changed, some forever, not for better, some have gone and some remain. All these places had their moments, with lovers and friends I still can recall, some are dead and some are living, in my life I've loved them all. But of all these friends and lovers, there is no one compared with you, and these memories lose their meaning when I think of love as something new. Though I know I'll never lose affection for people and things that went before, I know I'll often stop and think about them in my life I'll love you more. In my life I'll love you more. Thre are also many more Beatles' songs that deserve to be the greatest song lyrics ever such as "Yesterday," "Ask Me Why," "P.S. I Love You," "World Without Love (Recorded by Peter & Gordon in 1964)," "If I Fell," "And I Love Her," "Any Time At All," "I'll Follow The Sun," "Nowhere Man," "Here There And Everywhere," "Good Day Sunshine," "For No One," "She's Leaving Home," "A Day In The Life," "All You Need Is Love," "Hello Goodbye," "The Fool On The Hill," "Hey Jude," "Revolution," "Dear Prudence," "Blackbird," "I Will," "Birthday," "Mother Nature's Son," "Helter Skelter," "Good Night," "Goodbye (Recorded by Mary Hopkins in 1969)," "Oh! Darling," "Across The Universe," "Let It Be" and "The Long And Winding Road" to name a few. ROCK ON!

BIGDAN
"Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen Talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed" Classic. "And if you feel that you can't go on. And your will's sinkin' low Just believe and you can't go wrong. In the light you will find the road" And another. "Sing loud for the sunshine, pray hard for the rain And show your love for Lady Nature. And she will come back again" And more. Peep Solero
so far the first thing that popped into my mind was Joni Mitchell's A Case of you: Just before our love got lost you said I am as constant as a northern star And I said, constant in the darkness Wheres that at? If you want me Ill be in the bar On the back of a cartoon coaster In the blue tv screen light I drew a map of canada Oh canada And your face sketched on it twice Oh you are in my blood like holy wine Oh and you taste so bitter but you taste so sweet Oh I could drink a case of you I could drink a case of you darling And I would still be on my feet Oh Id still be on my feet Oh I am a lonely painter I live in a box of paints Im frightened by the devil And Im drawn to those ones that aint afraid I remember that time that you told me, you said Love is touching souls Surely you touched mine Cause part of you pours out of me In these lines from time to time Oh you are in my blood like holy wine And you taste so bitter but you taste so sweet Oh I could drink a case of you I could drink a case of you darling Still Id be on my feet And still be on my feet I met a woman She had a mouth like yours She knew your life She knew your devils and your deeds And she said Color go to him, stay with him if you can Oh but be prepared to bleed Oh but you are in my blood youre my holy wine Oh and you taste so bitter, bitter and so sweet Oh I could drink a case of you darling Still Id be on my feet Id still be on my feet

How's it going "Swede" from Sweden? You're right, Ray Davies from The Kinks is not just one of the best lyricists ever, but he may very well be one of the most humorous lyricists ever. Davies had a way with humor in his lyrics. Nothing could have been more evident than Davies' most greatest example of display of humor in his lyrics than The Kinks 1970 classic simply entitled "Lola." This song is actually based on a true story that happened with one of The Kinks' roadies. Guess what this song is about word for word as follows: I met her in a club down in old soho Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry cola see-oh-el-aye cola She walked up to me and she asked me to dance I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice said Lola El-oh-el-aye Lola la-la-la-la Lola. Well I'm not the world's most physical guy But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola. Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man Oh my Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola Well we drank champagne and danced all night Under electric candlelight She picked me up and sat me on her knee And said dear boy won't you come home with me Well I'm not the world's most passionate guy But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola I pushed her away I walked to the door I fell to the floor I got down on my knees Then I looked at her and she at me. Well that's the way that I want it to stay And I always want it to be that way for my Lola La-la-la-la Lola Girls will be boys and boys will be girls It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola La-la-la-la Lola Well I left home just a week before And I'd never ever kissed a woman before But Lola smiled and took me by the hand And said dear boy I'm gonna make you a man. Well I'm not the world's most masculine man But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man And so is Lola La-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola Lola la-la-la-la Lola la-la-la-la Lola In my opinion, Ray Davies was the Benny Hill of Rock n' Roll! beatbo
ray davies. one of the greats. how about this one, 'artlover' from 'give the people what they want': sunday afternoon there's something special it's just like another world. jogging in the park is my excuse to look at all the little girls. i'm not a flasher in a rain coat, i'm not a dirty old man, i'm not gonna snatch you from your mother, i'm an art lover. come to daddy, ah, come to daddy, come to daddy. pretty little legs, i want to draw them, like a degas ballerina. pure white skin, like porcelain, she's a work of art and i should know i'm an art lover. come to daddy, and i'll give you some spangles. little girl dont notice me watching as she innocently plays. she cant see me staring at her because i'm always wearing shades. she feeds the ducks, looks at the flowers. i follow her around for hours and hours. i'd take her home, but that could never be, she's just a substitute for what's been taken from me. ah, come to daddy, come on. sunday afternoon can't last forever, wish i could take you home. so, come on, give us a smile before you vanish out of view. i've learned to appreciate you the way art lovers do, And i only want to look at you. anybody that would deliberately write lyrics about his daughter (with chrissie hynde) that could be misconstrued as a felony waiting to happen has got super talent, a command of irony, is very funny, and has balls of steel. 'low budget' was my first (superman was on the radio) then 'one from the road' with 'lola' . after that i went back and bought all the originals: lola vs. powerman, etc. i still love 'low budget'. it strangely fits today. the remaster has 'father christmas' as a bonus track, which has to be up there with jingle bells as the great christmas song of all time. thanks for the catch. i didn't check it out but i know i can trust you, 59... How's it going "59LesPaul" and beatbo?" I thought that the lyrics to "Lola" said Cherry Cola but I quoted the lyrics word for word exactly as they were printed on the "Lola Versus Powerman And The Moneygoround Part One album. I guess that Ray Davies loved changing the lyrics while performing live in concert. I love The Kinks' "One For The Road" live DVD, it kicks ass! Ray Davies even shows and displays his funny humor side. The Kinks were the first Rock n' Roll band to have two brothers (Ray and Dave Davies) that fight it out on stage in front of everybody. The Black Crowes would soon follow in that tradition with the Robinson Brothers Chris and Rich fighting it out on stage as well. ROCK ON!
