Led Zeppelin Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

This reply is from LEVEE ONLY:

Wow I feel special! I always wanted to be an elitist. Is there some kind of course I can take or do I just pay a fee. Let's set some things straight, shall we Sparky?

First off The first star was given out in 1960, two years after I was born. So sadly I do know most of the names. You reference about the golf ball on the moon is so funny I can't stop laughing.

And what a banner job of coming up with "lost all interest in everything", seeing how it was two inches to your left. As far as you saying that some of these people did contribute to their industry, I'd have to agree with you there. Godzilla was unparalleled in his field.

Did you know the recipient has to pay 25 thousand dollars to maintain the star? Whose going to pay that ? You? We all know Jimmy's not going to pay it, I heard old lead wallet is clipping coupons as we speak. I'm just glad that Jimmy turned down what is probably the most un rock and roll thing I can think of. If it makes you happy that I'm an elitist snob. Fine.

Here are the RECORDING INDUSTRY stars.

I have highlited a few you may of heard of. YMMV

There must be 100's of grammy winners in this list and millions and millions of records sold.

I am sure you will find others..

Michael Bolton! This changes everything!

Michael Bolton (born Michael Bolotin on February 26, 1953), is an American singer-songwriter, best known for his soft rock ballads and tenor vocals.

His achievements include selling 53 million albums, eight top ten albums, two number one singles on the Billboard charts, and awards from both the American Music Awards and Grammy Awards.

Bolton's hard rock band, Blackjack, once toured with heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne

Jimmy Page has a busy schedule. Perhaps it would be an inconvenience to travel to Hollywood for a public appearance during this phase of his life. He should not feel pressured to do this kind of thing. I think it is wrong to try to push it on him or to use any kind of negative publicity that could make him feel uncomfortable about declining the opportunity.

Just say alright, that is fine if you do not feel ready to do this, maybe we will discuss it later if you happen to be so inclined, and gracefully leave it at that. Do not pressure him.

Zep Star,

I think Eternal Lights reply is the best in this situation.

I don't agree with some of the replies you have received. I don't think a star on the Walk of Fame is cheap or sleazy. I believe it would be a nice gesture. But many people are suspicious when a fan wants to do this type of thing because they think the person is doing it for selfish reasons, to bring attention upon oneself. I don't know you but I don't believe you are trying to put yourself in the spotlight.

I do realize that this would be a big undertaking and require alot of work and organizing on your part. Wouldn't it be a more positive experience for you if you had the approval of the band members themselves?

You did the right thing by trying to contact them but since JP has already declined maybe it would be better to step back and try again at a later time. You might get a more positive response in the future.

What about Paula Abdul? Get real and give me a @$*?*&^ break! What for Straight Up and practically liking every performer on American Idol. Now I'm convinced they'll give a star to almost anyone.

Paula Julie Abdul born June 19, 1962)[1] is a Grammy Award-winning American pop singer, dancer, two-time Emmy Award-winning choreographer, actress and television personality. Married to Emilio Estevez between 1992-1994, she is the former daughter-in-law of actor Martin Sheen.[2]

In the 1980s, Abdul rose from being a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers NBA basketball team to being a sought-after choreographer at the height of the music video era, then to being a Pop-R&B singer with a string of hits in the late-1980s and early-1990s. According to Abdul, she has sold over 53 million records to date.[3] She has scored six number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, placing her in a tie for fifth among the female solo performers who have reached #1 there.

Thanks Lynn-

Yours and eternal light's responses hit the nail on the head. I appreciate both of your voices of reason.

I agree, it sounds like you were trying to do something positive and had only the best of intentions. Right or wrong, that should count for something.

I was trying to do something for us all. Thank you,

I was trying to do something for us all. Thank you,

You can't say you failed on this juncture, due to a lack of effort. You get an "A+" for that. Just wasn't the right time for it and possibly was inconvenient for Jimmy and the others as they have other things they can't take time away from presently.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

:D Thanks for all of your nice comments. I kind of feel there's a lot going on with the group too, right now. What they may not realize however, is if I had gotten the go ahead, there really wasn't anything they'd have to do, as I would have coordinated the entire effort (with their oversight of course). The only real obligation on their part would be to show up for the one-day ceremony in L.A. after the Hollywood Chamber inducted them. Even that would be at the date they chose, as long as it was within 5 years of the induction. So time-wise, there would be plenty of leeway. And that would be only after they we inducted. The induction process could also go on for a few years, if they were not chosen the first year.

Didn't realize there was that much leeway as far as the induction goes. Five years...I'm sure they could handle that. Is it possible that Jimmy didn't realize that everything regarding this is on their own terms and not the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce? Plus I'm sure he doesn't consider it a top priority at the moment. We'll see. :)

I sent another letter today to the group with a more in depth explanation of the induction process and the fact that there is really no obligation on them other than giving their permission to start the campaign. If nothing is heard back, I'm going to assume they just don't want to get a star at all.
